Proper Brushing Technique:
1. Choose the Right Brush: Use a soft-bristled toothbrush with a small head that can reach all areas of the mouth. Consider using a fluoride toothpaste for added protection against cavities.
2. Position the Brush Correctly: Hold the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to the gums. This angle allows the bristles to reach under the gumline.
3. Use Gentle Circular Motions: Gently brush in small circular movements or short back-and-forth strokes, covering each tooth's surface. Focus on cleaning the outer, inner, and chewing surfaces of every tooth.
4. Brush the Gumline: Pay attention to the gumline, as plaque tends to accumulate there. Avoid applying too much pressure to prevent gum irritation.
5. Clean the Inner Surfaces: Tilt the brush vertically and use up-and-down strokes to clean the inner surfaces of the front teeth, both upper and lower.
6. Brush the Chewing Surfaces: Use back-and-forth strokes to clean the chewing surfaces of the molars, where food particles often get trapped.
7. Brush Your Tongue: Gently brush your tongue from back to front to remove bacteria and freshen your breath.
8. Brush for at Least Two Minutes: Spend around 30 seconds on each quadrant of the mouth, totaling two minutes.
9. Rinse Thoroughly: After brushing, spit out the toothpaste and rinse your mouth and toothbrush with water.
10. Replace Your Toothbrush Regularly: Change your toothbrush every 3-4 months or sooner if the bristles are frayed.
