Problem: Presenting a Class II, Low Angle case previously treated twice over by a general dentist. The case was ill-planned and poorly executed. The unscrupulous practitioner placed a super active NiTi wire as a fixed lingual retainer in the upper arch and built composite buttons on the facial surfaces for night-time elastic wear. This gave her a 'dancing' diastema’, gone by the day and reappeared by night! This bizarre situation caused the patient to fall into a state of depression which is when she was referred to our specialist practice.

Solution: A meticulous plan was put in place to utilize all the excessive, unwanted spaces to optimize her occlusion and open the bite making judicious use of Class II elastics. The outcome was more than pleasing, patient confidence was restored, giving her a radiant and sparkling smile.

This patient presented at the the clinic after 3 years with the complaint of bleeding and inflamed gums and pain in lower anterior teeth. Thorough scaling and polishing was done in the single visit. It is pertinent to mention here that if this issue (gingivitis) is not addressed timely it can lead to a severe form of dental disease called Periodontitis.

Dental prophylaxis. Scaling is a part of dental prophylaxis and is an important dental treatment for halting the progression of periodontal disease and gingivitis. It includes the removal of supragingival and subgingival calculus and plaque and then polishing of the teeth.
