Digital dentistry can feel overwhelming at first — scanners, CAD/CAM, exocad, 3Shape, 3D printing, smile design, digital implants… where do you even begin?

The key is to start with the basics, explore the free resources first, and invest only when you know exactly what skill you want to build.

You don’t need to buy every expensive course at the beginning. Learn the concepts, understand the workflows, explore different systems — then choose your paid training strategically.

Not every dentist’s journey follows the same path—and that’s okay.

Maybe you’re living abroad and still working towards your licensing exam. Maybe you’re a parent who wants more flexibility. Maybe life has taken you in a different direction, and returning to chairside practice isn’t possible right now.

Your dental degree is still valuable.

Dentistry is evolving, and so are the opportunities within it.

Digital Dentistry & CAD/CAM is one of the fastest-growing fields where dentistry meets technology. It allows dentists to use their clinical knowledge in a different way—designing digital restorations, collaborating with dental laboratories and clinics, and, in many roles, working remotely.

This post isn’t about encouraging anyone to leave clinical dentistry. If you have the opportunity to practise clinically and you love it, that’s a wonderful career. This series is for those who are searching for another path while staying connected to the profession they worked so hard to join.

There are many career opportunities in dentistry beyond the chair, and I’ll continue sharing them here to help you discover what’s possible.

Follow to stay connected and explore more non-clinical dental career paths from around the world.

One tiny trick… and suddenly brushing becomes a game. 🪥✨

Sprinkle a few chia seeds into your little one’s snack, and they’ll often stick to the teeth. Curious kids may think there’s something stuck (or even a tiny “bug” 😄), making them eager to grab their toothbrush and brush it all away!

Instead of saying, “Go brush your teeth,” try saying:
“Let’s see if we can brush every little chia seed away!” 🦷

Is your child breathing through their mouth?

It may seem like a harmless habit, but chronic mouth breathing can affect your child’s dental development, facial growth, sleep quality, and overall health.

Watch out for these signs:

• Lips frequently apart at rest
• Snoring or restless sleep
• Difficulty concentrating during the day
• Crowded or crooked teeth
• Tongue resting low in the mouth

What happens when a child breathes through their mouth?

• The mouth dries out, increasing the risk of cavities and gum disease.

• The tongue drops from its natural position against the palate, removing the support needed for proper upper jaw growth.

• The upper jaw may become narrow, leading to crowded teeth, crossbites, and orthodontic problems.

• Facial growth patterns can change over time. Research has shown that chronic mouth breathing may contribute to a longer, narrower face, a recessed chin, flatter cheekbones, and altered jaw development.

• Poor sleep quality may affect behaviour, attention, learning, growth, and overall well-being.

The good news? Early identification and intervention can make a significant difference in a child’s growth and development.

If your child regularly breathes through their mouth, snores, or sleeps with their lips apart, it is worth discussing with a pediatric dentist and your healthcare provider.

Sometimes the face tells a story long before the teeth do.

Most people focus only on brushing — but your oral pH plays a huge role in preventing cavities too.

When the mouth becomes too acidic, enamel starts to weaken, creating the perfect environment for caries-causing bacteria to thrive.

Simple habits can help balance your oral pH and reduce cavity risk:
• Drink plenty of water
• Limit frequent snacking
• Reduce sugary & acidic drinks
• Use fluoride toothpaste
• Chew sugar-free gum to stimulate saliva
• Maintain good oral hygiene

A healthier oral environment means stronger teeth and fewer cavities.
