The first sign of a cavity is usually the thing nobody would think to worry about: a small dull patch on the tooth. No hole. No ache. Nothing your tongue can find.
That patch is enamel losing minerals. It is the earliest stage of decay, and it is also the stage that can often be turned around — with fluoride, careful cleaning around that spot, and cutting down how often sugar reaches the teeth.
Leave it long enough and the weakened enamel breaks at the surface. Decay reaches the dentin underneath. Now it is a cavity you can see, and the tooth cannot repair that on its own.
What makes decay tricky is the timing. The quiet stage can last months. The painful one arrives long after the problem started.
That is the whole reason we look twice a year at Happy Tooth Dental Clinic in Johar Town, Lahore — to catch it while it is still just a patch.
