Teeth may sometimes feel slightly loose after a professional dental cleaning, especially if it has been a long time since the last session. This sensation can be unexpected and often misunderstood, but it does not mean the teeth were harmed during the procedure.

The scaling process removes hardened tartar (calculus) that builds up around the teeth and beneath the gums. When left for a long time, tartar can act like a false support—similar to cement—holding the teeth in place. However, this support is deceptive. Beneath the tartar, bacteria continue to damage the gums and bone, leading to slow, silent destruction of the structures that actually hold the teeth firmly.

After cleaning, the removal of tartar may reveal this existing damage, which can create the impression that teeth have become loose. But the cleaning did not cause this mobility—it simply exposed what was already present. In many cases, this is the first step toward healing. Once the source of infection is removed, the gums are able to recover, inflammation reduces, and natural support can begin to rebuild.

Scaling does not weaken teeth or damage enamel. It is a preventive, therapeutic procedure that helps maintain long-term oral health. Any mild mobility noticed after cleaning is usually temporary, and with proper care, gum tissues often tighten and stabilize over time.

Delaying or avoiding professional cleaning based on myths can result in worsening gum disease and eventual tooth loss. Regular scaling is an essential part of protecting and preserving oral health.

Wisdom teeth extractions rank among the most common oral surgeries for adults. According to recent data, up to 70% of people develop at least one impacted wisdom tooth, leading to complications that justify removal.

1. Impaction and Pain:
When the jaw lacks sufficient space, wisdom teeth often grow at odd angles or remain partially trapped beneath the gum. This “impaction” can cause severe pain, swollen gums, and difficulty opening the mouth.

2. Infection (Pericoronitis):
Partially erupted teeth create pockets where bacteria thrive, resulting in repeated infections, bad breath, and fever. Pericoronitis affects nearly 20% of patients with lower wisdom teeth.

3. Damage to Adjacent Teeth:
Impacted molars can press against second molars, leading to enamel erosion, cavities, and even root resorption. Early removal protects healthy teeth.

4. Cysts and Tumors:
In rare cases, fluid-filled cysts form around unerupted wisdom teeth, damaging jaw bone and nerves if left untreated.

5. Orthodontic Stability:
Even straight wisdom teeth may be removed prophylactically to prevent crowding after braces or aligners.

Wisdom tooth extraction, when clinically indicated, prevents long-term damage and preserves overall oral health. Regular dental check‑ups and panoramic X‑rays at ages 17–25 can help identify problematic wisdom teeth early—ensuring safer, smoother extractions.

Gum disease is not just an oral health issue—it’s a serious systemic health concern.

🔵 Here's how it happens:

When plaque builds up on teeth and gums, it harbors bacteria that cause inflammation. In periodontitis, these bacteria and inflammatory mediators can enter the bloodstream through bleeding gums.

Once in circulation, they can:

➡️ Trigger systemic inflammation that contributes to atherosclerosis (hardening of arteries).

➡️ Promote plaque buildup in blood vessels, increasing the risk of blockages.

➡️ Elevate C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, a marker associated with heart disease.

➡️ Potentially cause endothelial dysfunction, impairing blood vessel health.

Several studies show a strong link between chronic periodontal disease and increased risk of heart attacks, stroke, and even diabetes complications.
