Types of Suturing Techniques
Intermittent (Interrupted) sutures: Individual stitches are placed separately and tied independently. They provide good wound approximation and allow selective removal.
Continuous sutures: A single strand is passed continuously along the wound, making placement faster and providing uniform tension.
Blanket continuous sutures: A continuous locking pattern that provides secure wound closure and helps control wound-edge tension.
Retention sutures: Deep, widely spaced sutures used to provide additional support in large, deep, or high-tension wounds, reducing stress on the primary closure.
Choice of suture technique depends on wound location, depth, tension, tissue type, and the desired level of wound-edge approximation.
