π¦· PFM Crowns β Strength Meets Aesthetics
A PFM (Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal) crown combines a strong metal substructure with an outer layer of tooth-colored porcelain, providing a balance between durability and appearance.
β¨ Why are PFM crowns used?
β’ Strong and durable restoration
β’ Tooth-colored porcelain exterior
β’ Can restore damaged or weakened teeth
β’ Commonly used after root canal treatment when a crown is indicated
β’ Can be used for individual crowns and selected bridge cases
β’ Suitable for many front and back teeth depending on the clinical situation
π How does it work?
The tooth is carefully prepared β an impression or digital scan is taken β the crown is fabricated β fit, bite and appearance are checked before final cementation.
Every patient is different, so the choice between PFM, zirconia, E-max or other crown materials should be based on the tooth position, bite, aesthetics and clinical requirements.
