Fahmida Laghari Case
A Matter of Serious Concern
Fahmida Laghari, a medical student at Muhammad Medical College, affiliated with Ibne Sina Medical University, Mirpurkhas, tragically ended her life at her home by reportedly using a pistol. ( Also matter of concern that how and why she had very easy access of this dangerous weapon)
According to initial reports, she had been deeply distressed after receiving lower marks than expected, despite previously being a consistent top student and position holder. It has also been alleged that she may have faced harassment from a teacher; however, this claim remains unverified and requires thorough investigation.
We strongly demand a transparent and impartial inquiry into this matter. A detailed forensic and digital analysis of her mobile phone and other relevant evidence should be conducted to uncover the truth and ensure accountability, if any wrongdoing is found.
At the same time, Students should be reminded that it is not necessary to maintain top positions at all the times. Students should understand that achieving passing marks with good performance is itself a success. Academic rankings do not define a person’s worth or future.
No setback, including lower grades or loss of position, should ever lead someone to believe that life is no longer worth living. There is a critical need to promote mental health awareness, provide counseling support in educational institutions, and create an environment where students feel safe to speak about their struggles without fear or pressure.
This tragic loss should serve as a wake up call for institutions, families, and society to prioritize student wellbeing alongside academic excellence. Hope things get better.
