Why Wisdom Teeth Shouldn’t Always Be Ignored

This X-ray shows an impacted lower wisdom tooth growing sideways and pushing toward the tooth in front of it.

When left untreated, impacted wisdom teeth may lead to:
• Pain and swelling
• Gum infection
• Cavities or damage to the neighboring tooth
• Difficult cleaning and food trapping

In this case, the wisdom tooth was carefully removed in sections to allow a controlled and conservative extraction.

Not all wisdom teeth need to be removed—but they should be properly evaluated before they cause problems.
