🦷 DO ALL WISDOM TEETH NEED TO BE REMOVED? NOT ALWAYS!

Wisdom teeth are the last molars to develop, usually emerging in the late teens or early adulthood. But does everyone need them removed?

The answer: It depends! 👇

✅ They may be kept if they are healthy, properly positioned, functional, and can be cleaned effectively.

⚠️ Removal may be recommended if they cause:
• Repeated pain or infection
• Tooth decay that cannot be managed appropriately
• Gum problems around the wisdom tooth
• Damage to neighbouring teeth
• Certain cysts or other pathology

🔎 What if they don't hurt?

A wisdom tooth without symptoms may still need assessment. Equally, an impacted wisdom tooth does not automatically require removal. Your dentist will consider its position, condition, risks and your individual circumstances.

💡 The takeaway: Don't assume every wisdom tooth must go—or that a painless one can always be ignored. A dental examination, and X-rays when clinically indicated, can help determine the appropriate approach.

🦷 OPEN BITE: WHEN YOUR TEETH DON'T MEET PROPERLY!

Have you noticed that your upper and lower front teeth don't touch even when you close your mouth? 🤔 You might have an anterior open bite!

✨ What causes an open bite?
🔹 Prolonged thumb sucking or pacifier use during childhood
🔹 Tongue thrusting or abnormal tongue posture
🔹 Differences in jaw growth and development
🔹 Certain tooth eruption or skeletal problems

🦷 Can an open bite be corrected?

Yes! Treatment depends on the cause, severity, and age of the patient. Options may include:
✅ Orthodontic braces
✅ Clear aligners in suitable cases
✅ Habit management and other supportive treatments
✅ Jaw surgery for selected severe skeletal cases

⚠️ Why does it matter? An open bite may affect biting, chewing, speech, and overall dental function. Early assessment can help identify the cause and guide appropriate treatment.

💙 Don't ignore your bite! Every smile deserves the right care and attention.

📩 Book a consultation with Manalang Dental Group to have your bite assessed and explore the treatment options suitable for you.

EVER FELT YOUR JAW GET STUCK WHILE YAWNING? DON'T IGNORE RECURRING EPISODES.

Have you ever yawned, opened your mouth wide, and suddenly felt your jaw get stuck? 😬

Your jaw joint—known as the temporomandibular joint (TMJ)—works with the surrounding muscles and a small cartilage disc to help your mouth open and close smoothly.
Sometimes, problems involving the joint or its supporting muscles can cause the jaw to lock or restrict its movement. This may be associated with temporomandibular disorders (TMD).

🚩 WHAT SHOULD YOU LOOK OUT FOR?
🔹 Your jaw gets stuck during yawning.
🔹 You have difficulty opening or closing your mouth fully.
🔹 You experience jaw pain or stiffness.
🔹 You notice clicking or popping accompanied by pain.
🔹 Your jaw movement feels restricted or uneven.
🔹 Episodes of jaw locking keep coming back.
Remember: Clicking alone, without pain or restricted movement, is common and does not necessarily require treatment. However, recurring locking deserves assessment.

💡 WHAT CAN YOU DO?
✅ Avoid forcing your mouth open when yawning.
✅ Temporarily avoid very wide mouth opening and excessive chewing if these trigger symptoms.
✅ Arrange an assessment with your dentist if locking recurs or your jaw movement changes.
✅ Seek urgent medical or dental advice if your jaw becomes stuck open or closed, particularly if you cannot close your mouth or eat and drink normally.
Your dentist can assess your jaw movement, joint sounds, muscles and symptoms to help determine whether further investigation or treatment is needed.

💙 YOUR JAW HEALTH MATTERS.

At Manalang Dental Group , understanding how your jaw moves is an important part of assessing your oral function and comfort.

🦷 CAN’T OPEN YOUR MOUTH AS WIDE AS BEFORE?

A noticeable reduction in mouth opening can sometimes be associated with temporomandibular disorders (TMD), but it can also have other causes—including muscle problems, inflammation, trauma, or infection.

Look out for:

🔹 Jaw stiffness
🔹 Pain when chewing
🔹 Jaw locking
🔹 Painful clicking or popping
🔹 Difficulty opening wide
🔹 Changes in your bite

A proper assessment looks at your jaw movement, muscles, joints, bite, and symptoms rather than relying on one measurement.

If you've noticed a change in how wide you can open your mouth and the problem persists, don't ignore it. Consider having your jaw and oral function assessed by a dental professional.

Your jaw movement is an important part of your overall oral function. 🦷

ROOT CANAL OR EXTRACTION?

Why Saving Your Natural Tooth May Matter

When a tooth is severely damaged or infected, two common treatment options are Root Canal Treatment and Tooth Extraction. But which one is right for you?

✨ WHY SAVE YOUR NATURAL TOOTH?

✅ 1\. Preserve Your Natural Smile A root canal removes infected or damaged pulp while keeping your natural tooth in place. This helps maintain your smile and natural appearance.

✅ 2\. Maintain Proper Chewing Function Your natural teeth work together to help you chew comfortably and efficiently. Saving a tooth can help preserve your normal bite.

✅ 3\. Prevent Teeth From Shifting When a tooth is extracted, nearby teeth may gradually drift into the empty space, potentially affecting your bite and alignment.

✅ 4\. Avoid Additional Tooth Replacement Procedures After extraction, you may need to consider a dental implant, bridge, or denture to replace the missing tooth. Saving a restorable tooth may help avoid these additional procedures.

✅ 5\. Preserve Your Natural Tooth Structure A successful root canal allows you to retain your own tooth rather than replacing it with an artificial option.

🦷 WHEN IS EXTRACTION NECESSARY?

Extraction may be recommended when a tooth is too damaged to be restored, has a severe fracture, or has extensive destruction that makes saving it unpredictable.

Remember: Not every tooth can be saved, and not every tooth needs a root canal. The best treatment depends on the condition of your tooth, the extent of the damage, and your overall oral health.

💙 Your natural teeth are worth preserving whenever possible. Early diagnosis and proper treatment can make a difference.
