It's Dental Hygiene Month! A healthy smile is about so much more than a smile. It can mean being free from pain, feeling confident, being able to eat comfortably, and having one less worry to carry.

For too many people in our communities, access to dental care can feel out of reach. At Mission of Mercy, we believe that everyone deserves compassionate care, dignity, and the opportunity to take care of their health.

Through our mobile dental clinics, Mission of Mercy provides free dental services to adults who do not have other care options available, including dental exams, X-rays, fillings, extractions, and information on proper dental hygiene. Because behind every smile is a person with a story, and every person deserves to be treated with compassion.

Routine brushing alone cannot remove hardened mineral deposits once they set in. This close-up view captures ultrasonic scaling in full motion, breaking apart stubborn calculus (tartar) and heavy dark staining from the lingual surfaces of the teeth.

When plaque is left undisturbed, it mineralizes into tartar, creating a porous shelter for destructive oral bacteria. Over time, this buildup triggers chronic gum inflammation, persistent bleeding, bad breath, and progressive periodontal disease that threatens underlying bone support.

Using rapid ultrasonic vibrations paired with a continuous water spray, the specialized scaler tip shatters calcified deposits safely without harming healthy enamel. The fine mist cools the tooth while actively flushing out dislodged debris and bacteria along the gingival margin, allowing irritated gum tissues to heal and reattach. Prioritizing routine professional cleanings remains the ultimate defense in preserving a clean, disease-free smile. 🦷✨🪥🌊
