Today, we celebrate and say a heartfelt thank you to Nurse Dja on her last day with Bautista Dental Center after 7 wonderful years. 🤍🥹

While it’s not easy to say goodbye, we are filled with so much gratitude for everything she has given to our team and our patients.

Her dedication as a dental assistant and secretary has been truly remarkable—efficient, reliable, and always going above and beyond. But more than that, it’s her warmth, kindness, and empathy that made such a lasting impact. She had a special way of making every patient feel at ease and comfortable, turning even the most nervous visits into positive experiences.

From her quick responses to messages to her gentle, genuine care for every patient, she set a standard that will always be remembered.
Though today is her last day at the clinic, she will always be part of the Bautista Dental Center family. 💕

Impacted wisdom teeth are third molars that don't have enough space to fully erupt in the mouth. Because of this, they often grow at odd angles — pushing against the second molars. What’s alarming is that this damage usually happens without any noticeable pain in the early stages. You might feel completely fine, while silent destruction is taking place underneath the gums.

As the impacted wisdom tooth presses against the second molar, it can slowly erode the healthy tooth's root or enamel. This constant pressure can create a trap for bacteria and food particles, increasing the risk of deep cavities, gum infections, and even bone loss between the two teeth. If left undetected, the healthy molar — which is critical for chewing — might end up needing a root canal, a large filling, or even extraction.

Since the process is often painless at first, many patients don’t realize there’s a problem until it’s too late. That’s why dentists recommend regular X-rays during the late teens or early twenties, when wisdom teeth typically start to erupt. Catching the problem early means the difference between a simple extraction and permanent damage to your healthy teeth.

If you still have your wisdom teeth and haven’t had them evaluated recently, it’s worth asking your dentist for an updated scan. Early action can save your smile from long-term complications.

When a tooth is lost and not replaced, it sets off a silent but steady chain reaction. The neighbouring teeth start to shift into the gap, while the opposing tooth over-erupts, disturbing the bite and creating long-term alignment problems.

With time, the jawbone beneath the missing tooth begins to resorb due to lack of stimulation. This bone loss can alter facial structure, reduce lip support, and make future restorations more complex or less stable.

As teeth drift, tiny spaces form between them, trapping food and bacteria. This leads to cavities, gum disease, and even infection, often progressing unnoticed until significant damage occurs.

Early tooth replacement isn’t just about appearance — it’s essential for maintaining bone health, bite balance, and overall oral function. Modern restorative dentistry offers reliable options like implants, bridges, and dentures to restore natural stability and prevent further complications.

Why Toothache Gets Worse at Night — The Real Reason Behind It.

Many people notice their toothache feels more intense when they lie down — especially at night. It’s not psychological. It’s biological.

When you lie flat, gravity shifts blood flow toward your head. This increases blood volume around the infected tooth, raising internal pressure in the pulp chamber — a closed space that can't expand.
The result? Throbbing, pulsing pain that worsens even if you’re resting.

In cases of irreversible pulpitis or deep decay, the inflamed nerve tissue reacts more aggressively when the body is in a horizontal position. Add to that the lack of distractions at night, and the pain feels magnified.

If your tooth hurts more when lying down, it's a red flag that the pulp may be severely inflamed or infected — and likely needs immediate dental treatment such as root canal therapy.
Delaying may lead to abscess, bone infection, or facial swelling.

Brushing your teeth is essential for oral health, but applying too much pressure can lead to unintended consequences. Excessive force during brushing can wear down the protective enamel and cause the gums to recede, exposing the sensitive roots of your teeth. This exposure can result in increased tooth sensitivity and a higher risk of decay.

A study published in the Journal of Clinical Periodontology found that aggressive tooth brushing is associated with gingival recession, especially when combined with horizontal brushing techniques and the use of medium to hard-bristled toothbrushes .

🪥Recommendations for Gentle Brushing:

➡️Use a soft-bristled toothbrush: Soft bristles are less abrasive on your gums and enamel.

➡️Adopt proper brushing techniques: Employ gentle, circular motions rather than aggressive back-and-forth scrubbing.

➡️Limit brushing time: Brush for two minutes, twice a day, to effectively clean without overdoing it.

➡️Be mindful of pressure: Let the bristles do the work; excessive force isn't necessary for effective cleaning.
