POV: You’re a dentist… and somehow your job is never just dentistry. 🦷🥲

Behind every “small cavity” is a complete investigation.
Behind every “it doesn’t hurt” is a story waiting to be discovered.
Behind every “I’ll only take 5 minutes” is a patient who has 10 different concerns. 😂

You spend years learning anatomy, diagnosis, radiology, restorative dentistry, endodontics, surgery, and a hundred other things… only to realise that half of dentistry is actually managing fear, expectations, and last-minute questions.

You have to work in a tiny space, with limited visibility, while someone is moving their tongue, swallowing, closing their mouth, asking questions, and occasionally saying:

“Doctor, will this hurt?” 😭

And somehow, you still have to stay calm, focused, precise, and reassuring.

The hardest part?

You care about every single tooth as if it were your own. ❤️🦷

Dentistry may look like simply fixing teeth from the outside, but behind that dental chair is years of education, concentration, patience, responsibility, and a whole lot of mental exhaustion.

To every dentist who has ever finished a long day, removed their gloves, sat back for a second and thought…

“I survived another day.” 😂🥲

𝗕𝗮𝗸𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗶𝘅𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗴𝗮 𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀? 💸

After all, kung pareho namang “bunot,” “pasta,” o “root canal,” bakit minsan magkakaiba ang presyo?

The simple answer is: 𝘽𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙣𝙤 𝙩𝙬𝙤 𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙘𝙖𝙨𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙚𝙭𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙡𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙖𝙢𝙚. 💯

Just because two patients need the same procedure doesn’t mean the treatment will have the same level of difficulty.

For example, a tooth extraction can be very simple for one patient.

Pero sa ibang pasyente, the tooth might be badly broken, impacted, infected, or positioned in a way that requires more time, more instruments, and a more complex approach.

Pareho silang extraction.

Pero magkaiba ang condition.

Magkaiba rin ang treatment requirements.

That’s why dental fees are not based solely on the name of the procedure.

They’re also influenced by:

🦷 The condition of the tooth and surrounding tissues
🦷 The complexity of the case
🦷 The materials that will be used
🦷 The instruments and equipment required
🦷 The time needed to complete the treatment
🦷 The clinical expertise needed to achieve a safe and predictable result

Sa dentistry, hindi siya parang restaurant menu na may iisang price para sa lahat. 👎

Every smile is unique.

Every patient has different needs.

And every treatment plan is customized based on what is actually happening inside the mouth.

That’s why a proper consultation is important.

Because before we can determine the most appropriate treatment—and its corresponding fee—we first need to evaluate your specific dental condition.

At the end of the day, you’re not just paying for the procedure itself.

You’re also paying for the diagnosis, treatment planning, sterilization protocols, quality materials, professional expertise, and the care needed to achieve the best possible outcome.

✨ Because in dentistry, one fixed price simply cannot fit every patient.

This is what an untreated cavity really looks like — from the inside.

The dark area at the top is advanced dental caries, where bacteria have destroyed the enamel and dentin. Beneath it lies the pulp chamber, rich in nerves and blood vessels — shown here inflamed and exposed.

Once decay reaches this depth, pain is no longer just “toothache.” It is nerve infection, inflammation, and a gateway for bacteria to enter the bloodstream.

At this stage, a simple filling is no longer enough. Treatment usually requires root canal therapy or extraction — both more complex, costly, and invasive than early care.

A new 21-year study from the University of South Carolina has found that people with both gum disease and tooth decay face an 86% higher risk of stroke compared to those with healthy mouths — even after accounting for smoking, diabetes, and other cardiovascular factors.

Researchers followed nearly 6,000 adults over two decades and discovered that chronic oral inflammation and bacterial infection may trigger changes in blood vessels and increase the likelihood of clots — a key cause of ischemic strokes. Poor oral health doesn’t just harm teeth; it may silently strain the brain and heart.

The study also revealed that individuals who visited the dentist regularly were 81% less likely to have both gum disease and cavities, and 29% less likely to have gum disease alone. Routine scaling, professional cleanings, and early treatment of cavities could play a major role in reducing stroke risk.
