🦷 Two Patients, One Challenge 💪

Both patients were 7 years old, presenting with extensive carious lesions on their lower first permanent molars, accompanied by pain. Interestingly, both were experiencing their first-ever dental visit.

Now, the challenge goes beyond treating the caries. How do you manage a young, anxious, first-time dental patient who is already in pain?

My approach?

Build trust first. 🌟
Establish rapport and help the child feel safe before starting any procedure.

… and the real goal is to keep them pain-free. 🦷✨

How do we determine if a tooth needs Root Canal Treatment? 🦷

It starts with a proper diagnosis.

1️⃣ Listen to the patient’s symptoms— pain, sensitivity, discomfort, or other concerns.
2️⃣ Clinical examination— with intraoral photographs.
3️⃣ Periapical X-ray to assess the pe*******on of dental caries.
4️⃣ If the diagnosis is uncertain, a medicated/sedative restoration may be placed and the tooth monitored for up to 6 weeks.
5️⃣ Based on the tooth’s response and clinical findings, we determine the appropriate treatment — including whether Root Canal Treatment is indicated.

Because good dentistry begins with an accurate diagnosis.✨🦷

🦷 From a “loose tooth” to healing you can see. ✨

The patient presented in August with mobility and pain in the lower front tooth, especially when biting. Clinical examination revealed tenderness to percussion, and a periapical radiograph showed a periapical radiolucency.

Root canal treatment was completed, followed by obturation today. The patient reported that the mobility had resolved. 🙌

The final PA radiograph showed a reduction in the periapical radiolucency — an encouraging sign of bone healing.✨

📅 6-month follow-up advised to monitor healing.

From mobility → treatment → healing and the X-ray tells the story. ✨

✨ Treating a child patient isn’t just about treating teeth. 🦷💫

It’s about earning their trust, making them feel safe, and helping them discover that a visit to the dentist doesn’t have to feel like a punishment. 🥰

Meet my patient, **Liam**! 🥰 Buzz Lightyear is his favorite character, so naturally, we had to channel a little *“To infinity and beyond!”* 🚀✨

And just like Buzz, I guess I need **patience… to infinity and beyond!** 😅

Kidding aside, Liam is the cutest! 🥹 He loves to ask questions—and then ask some more! He wants to know exactly what I’m going to do and the sequence of every step before we begin. 🦷👀

And honestly, I love that about him. ❤️

Because sometimes, the best way to care for a little patient is to **slow down, explain, listen, and let them feel in control.**
