Composite restoration of a fractured central incisor. ✨

Patient came to the clinic complaining of a dislodged composite restoration. The tooth has a history of fracture and was already restored (using composite) several years ago. Diagnostic tests revealed that the tooth is vital and no periapical infection is present. She was advised that composite restoration may be done but a jacket crown may be necessary should the filling dislodges again.

Teeth Whitening ✨

Teeth Whitening is a dental procedure done to lighten the color of your teeth. Procedure starts with cleaning the surfaces of your teeth (regular prophylaxis), applying the whitening agent, and activating the whitening agent using a blue light. Although, whitening agents do not take effect on dental fillings, veneers, and crowns.

It is to be noted that results and side effects vary in each case. For this specific patient, the teeth became two shades lighter (from A3 to A1) after two 15-minute cycles. She opted not to proceed on the third cycle since she is already satisfied with the new shade. The old fillings on the two central incisors are scheduled for replacement after a week.

Cosmetic restoration of a retained primary tooth using Direct Composite. ✨

The patient wanted to “cover” the discoloration on her retained primary (aka baby) tooth. Clinical examination showed that the tooth is discolored, but is asymptomatic and not mobile. Panoramic radiograph showed the following: missing permanent canine, good bone support, and absence of periapical infection.

Patient was presented with treatment options and their corresponding advantages and disadvantages; but she ultimately decided to do a direct composite veneer. Another smile transformation! 😉
