🩺 QUICK HEALTH QUIZ! What would YOU do? 🤔

Your child suddenly develops a high fever at home.

What would be your FIRST step?

👇 Choose one:

A. Give an antibiotic immediately 💊
B. Give appropriate fever care and monitor the child 🌡️
C. Wait several days before doing anything ⏳
D. Immediately go to the ER, regardless of symptoms 🚑

Comment your answer below: A, B, C, or D! 👇

There isn’t always one answer for every situation. The child’s age, appearance, breathing, hydration, associated symptoms, and overall condition all matter when deciding what to do.

❤️ If your child looks seriously unwell or has concerning symptoms, seek medical attention promptly.

Let’s see what everyone chooses! 👇

🌡️ YOUR CHILD HAS A FEVER. WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

Fever can be worrying, especially when it’s your child. But remember: fever itself is usually a sign that the body is responding to an infection.

Here are a few things parents should remember:

👀 Look at the child, not just the thermometer.
How your child behaves, drinks, breathes, and responds is important.

💧 Keep your child well hydrated.
Offer fluids frequently, especially if there is sweating, vomiting, or diarrhea.

🌡️ Monitor the temperature and symptoms.
Don’t focus only on making the number on the thermometer normal.

💊 Use medicines appropriately.
Avoid giving antibiotics or other medications without proper medical advice.

🚨 Know the warning signs.
Seek medical attention if your child has difficulty breathing, unusual sleepiness or confusion, persistent vomiting, signs of dehydration, seizures, or you feel that your child is getting significantly worse.

❤️ You know your child best. If something doesn’t feel right, it’s okay to ask for medical advice.

💊 ANTIBIOTICS DON’T TREAT EVERY FEVER

One of the most common misconceptions about fever is that an antibiotic is always needed.

But antibiotics work against certain bacterial infections—not viral infections such as many common colds and flu-like illnesses.

Taking antibiotics when they’re not needed may:

❌ Cause unnecessary side effects
❌ Contribute to antibiotic resistance
❌ Make future infections harder to treat

Instead, the important question isn’t:

“What antibiotic should I take?”

It’s:

“What is causing the illness, and does it actually need an antibiotic?”

👨‍⚕️ If you’re unsure about your symptoms or whether you need medical treatment, consult a doctor rather than self-medicating with antibiotics.

🌡️ FEVER: WHEN SHOULD YOU ACTUALLY SEE A DOCTOR?

Fever is one of the most common reasons people seek medical advice. Most fevers are caused by infections and may improve with proper supportive care—but there are situations when you shouldn’t simply wait it out.

Consider seeking medical evaluation when:

🌡️ Fever persists or keeps coming back
👶 A young infant develops a fever
😮‍💨 There is difficulty breathing
💧 There are signs of dehydration
🔴 Fever is accompanied by a concerning rash
🤕 There is severe headache, unusual sleepiness, confusion, or significant weakness
❤️ You feel that something isn’t right

Remember: The number on the thermometer is only one part of the picture. How the person looks, behaves, drinks, breathes, and responds is also important.

5 SYMPTOMS YOU SHOULDN’T IGNORE 🚨

Most symptoms are not emergencies—but some deserve medical attention, especially when they are persistent, severe, or getting worse.

Watch out for:

🌡️ Fever lasting more than 3 days
😮‍💨 Persistent cough or difficulty breathing
🤢 Severe or repeated vomiting/diarrhea
😴 Extreme weakness or unusual sleepiness
🫁 Chest pain or significant difficulty breathing

If you or someone in your family develops concerning symptoms, don’t wait until things become severe before seeking medical advice.

❤️ Early assessment can mean earlier care.
