Have you ever noticed a small, soft bump inside your mouth that keeps coming back? It could be a MUCOCELE —a harmless cyst-like swelling that develops when a minor salivary gland becomes blocked or injured. Mucoceles are commonly found on the lower lip but can also occur in other areas of the mouth.

Although mucoceles are usually benign, not every oral lump or swelling is a mucocele. Some lesions may appear similar but require different treatment. This is why an oral biopsy is sometimes recommended. A biopsy involves removing all or part of the lesion so it can be examined under a microscope, allowing for a precise diagnosis.
