“Why Do we charge a consultation fee for dental check-ups?

Let me explain. First and foremost, we are doctors. When you go for a medical check-up with a physician (MD), it’s automatically understood that there’s a consultation fee involved. So why is it that when people visit a dentist—a DMD or DDM (Doctor of Dental Medicine)—they often ask if there’s a check-up fee?
I apologize if I sound overly passionate, but I believe this is an issue not only in our clinic but across the dental field.

Of course, there are certain cases when we waive the consultation fee, such as for relatives, close friends, or referrals. However, as a general rule, we do charge for dental check-ups. This message is simply to raise awareness and help more patients understand the policies and realities of dental clinics.

🦷 To our valued patients:
We understand—you come to the clinic with a painful tooth, hoping for answers. But did you know there are many possible causes behind that pain?

🩺👀As dentists, it’s our responsibility to look closely: we examine the mouth, take radiographs, and even use photo samples or illustrations to explain what’s really happening. It’s through this process that we uncover the root of the problem—something that simply can’t be done without a proper check-up.

✨ A thorough consultation leads to proper treatment planning. That way, you as the patient can make informed decisions about the options available for your care.

Your understanding is part of your healing. We’re here to help, every step of the way. 💙

⚖️The Philippine Dental Association also sets standardized rates. Patients are always free to compare prices—canvassing is their right. Naturally, we do offer discounts. But I’ve received messages from patients surprised by the large discounts, thinking that maybe the treatment was substandard or not done well.

👍🏻Let me clarify: we lower our fees at times not because of poor quality, but because of specific considerations, such as the patient’s circumstances or simply as a gesture of goodwill. The quality of our work remains our utmost priority. Our decision to offer discounts is made thoughtfully and never compromises the value or results of the dental care we provide.

In my more than 20 years of practice as a dentist, I’ve always looked forward to creating a joyful experience and building meaningful communication with each of my patients. Every treatment I’ve done has been carried out with the best of my knowledge and skills. What I love the most is seeing my pediatric patients.

I first met this particular patient when she was just in Grade 3, terrified of going to the dentist. She came in several times for appointments with her mom and cousins—so many visits that I could barely remember each one. But then, she showed me an old photo of herself and everything came rushing back.

We lost touch for many years for various reasons. She had tried to return to my clinic in Fairview, even tried calling me, but eventually lost hope in finding me. Thankfully, through the power of Facebook, she searched my name, found my profile, and eventually got my number.

Now, she’s 26 years old, and I was finally able to see her again. I felt incredibly lucky and overwhelmed with joy. You are still my baby girl ❤️❤️❤️
