Did you know your everyday favorites can slowly wear down your enamel? 🦷
Enamel erosion happens when acids repeatedly come into contact with the surface of your teeth. Carbonated drinks, sour candies, and certain alcoholic beverages can contribute to this process, especially when consumed frequently or sipped over long periods.
As enamel becomes thinner, teeth may start to look more yellow, feel increasingly sensitive, or develop smoother, worn-looking edges. Unlike plaque that can simply be cleaned away, enamel that has already been physically lost cannot be restored naturally, which is why prevention matters.
A few habits can help reduce unnecessary acid exposure:
- Drink water after acidic food or beverages.
- Avoid constantly sipping soft drinks throughout the day.
- Use a straw when appropriate to reduce direct contact with the teeth.
- Wait around 30 minutes before brushing after consuming something acidic.
- Keep up with regular dental checkups so early changes can be noticed before they become more significant.
You don’t necessarily have to give up everything you enjoy. What matters is how often your teeth are exposed and how you care for them afterward.
