A patient came in to the clinic a week ago with pain and swelling on her lower left jaw. Her panoramic xray showed horizontally impacted tooth #38, with a dilacerated distal root.

After a week of antibiotic treatment, patient made a good decision to have the tooth extracted than to wait for the pain to occur again.

Odontectomy, or surgical removal of impacted teeth, is performed when a tooth fails to erupt into the dental arch within the expected time, or when the adjacent teeth, or dense overlying bone, or excessive soft tissue prevents its eruption. Class III Composite restoration on upper central incisors – a restoration on the surface of the two teeth that are contacting each other.

In this case, the decay is not as evident when seen in the front, but when inspected by the dentist through the mouth mirror, the decay was already deep, causing sensitivity during drilling.

Patient came in the clinic with a fractured incisor that was already endodontically treated.

Dr. Joy Laurente installed a fiber post for more durability since most of the tooth was destroyed.

The central incisor was temporarily restored with composite and is ready to be replaced with a jacket crown so it can withstand wear, pressure and damage.

The dental pulp is the nerve of the tooth. This can become inflamed when bacteria enters the tooth through a crack or a cavity, which will then cause an infection. If left untreated, the bacteria will spread out and the damage will then become irreversible. In this case, the tooth will either be extracted, or it will need a ROOT CANAL TREATMENT.

Root canal treatment is a dental procedure done to remove the inflamed or infected pulp on the inside of the tooth, which is then carefully cleaned and disinfected, then filled and sealed.

Note that some teeth requiring root canal treatment have no symptoms. The best way to determine if you need a root canal treatment is to see your dentist.
