𝗔 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗻.

This patient 𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰𝘰𝘵𝘩 and experienced sensitivity after the accident. Fortunately, the pulp, or the living tissue inside the tooth; was not exposed.

After trauma, the pulp may temporarily react differently, and early tests may not yet show whether it will recover. Instead of performing an irreversible treatment too soon, we restored the tooth and are giving it an opportunity to possibly heal.

Using 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀, we rebuilt the missing portion while 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙨 𝙢𝙪𝙘𝙝 𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙩𝙤𝙤𝙩𝙝 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 as possible.

The tooth will be checked again after approximately two weeks and monitored over the following months.

What may happen next?

• If the 𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗽 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹 treatment may 𝗻𝗼𝘁 be 𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆.

• If the 𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗽 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱, 𝙧𝙤𝙤𝙩 𝙘𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙡 treatment may 𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙡 be 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙚𝙙.

• 𝘈 𝙘𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘰𝘵𝘩 𝘳𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘥𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.

For now, we restored his smile, preserved his natural tooth, and kept future treatment options open.

Sometimes, good dentistry means treating what is necessary today while giving the tooth a chance to heal.

On September 3, Dr. Francis Dobles Paraiso returned to his alma mater, Emilio Aguinaldo College, as guest speaker for the School of Dentistry’s White Coat Ceremony.

Ten years after graduating with the Class of 2016, he shared a simple reminder with its newest student clinicians: clinical requirements may come as a list, but every patient is a whole person placing their trust in your hands.

Good dentistry goes beyond completing procedures. It requires proper diagnosis, thoughtful decisions, humility, and responsibility.

Because of a tongue tie, the patient had difficulty lifting and moving the tongue freely. Right after the release, the tongue was able to move and lift much better, with very little bleeding.

Each case is different, so proper assessment is needed before deciding if a tongue tie release is necessary. Our tongue tie assessments and procedures are currently focused on adolescent and adult patients.

Sometimes, the biggest improvement comes from understanding why a smile looks uneven in the first place.

In this case, 𝙙𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙚 𝙗𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 was used to:

• Close spaces naturally
• Restore worn tooth edges

🦷 Some wisdom teeth really like to keep things exciting!

This lower wisdom tooth was 𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀, 𝙘𝙡𝙤𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙮 associated with the 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲, and had a surprisingly 𝙘𝙪𝙧𝙫𝙚𝙙 𝙧𝙤𝙤𝙩 that seemed determined to stay exactly where it was.

Cases like this are a great reminder of why 𝗖𝗕𝗖𝗧 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀. Three dimensional imaging allows us to evaluate the relationship between the tooth and the nerve, understand root anatomy, and plan the procedure with greater confidence.

Despite the challenging anatomy, the tooth was successfully removed, highlighting how careful diagnosis, proper planning, and precise surgical technique work together to achieve a predictable result.

This patient presented with a 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘳 𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘦s. Upon evaluation and imaging, we confirmed that the tooth was 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗷𝗮𝘄, close to the 𝙣𝙖𝙨𝙖𝙡 𝙧𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙤𝙣.

🔍 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱:
• Impacted canines positioned high in the bone
• Close proximity to the nasal floor
• Not erupting into its proper position

🧠 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗸𝗲𝘆:
Before surgery, we carefully studied a CBCT (3D scan) to accurately assess the exact position of the teeth and its relation to nearby structures. This allows for a safer and more precise approach.

🛠️ 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗱:
• Careful surgical access to the area
• Guided bone removal based on CBCT findings
• Atraumatic extraction of the impacted canine
• 2D Xray allowed us to see the complete and safe removal which made the patient worry-free
• Bone grafting to regenerate the empty space where the impacted teeth came from

Cases like this require more than just a standard X-ray. 3D imaging helped us minimize risks and allowed a faster, safer removal; even in a complex case.
