🦷 Replacement of Failed Class I Composite Restoration with Indirect Pulp Capping
Another tooth successfully restored using conservative, evidence-based restorative dentistry!
The patient presented with a previous Class I composite restoration placed on tooth # 47 less than one year ago, which exhibited recurrent caries beneath and around the existing restoration. Clinical examination revealed marginal leakage and secondary decay, necessitating replacement of the restoration to preserve the remaining tooth structure and pulp vitality.
After careful removal of the defective restoration and all carious dentin, an indirect pulp capping procedure using calcium hydroxide was performed to protect the pulp, encourage reparative dentin formation, and maintain the vitality of the tooth.
The cavity was then restored using GC Solare X, a universal, light-cured nano-hybrid composite resin, in combination with the 3M Adhesive Bonding System. GC Solare X offers excellent handling characteristics, superior polishability, high wear resistance, and lifelike esthetics, making it an ideal restorative material for both anterior and posterior teeth. Incremental layering and anatomical contouring techniques were employed to achieve optimal adaptation, strength, and occlusal function.
Finishing and polishing were performed using fine-grit finishing burs followed by low-speed abrasive polishing discs, cups, and polishing points to create a smooth, glossy restoration. This polishing protocol enhances esthetics, minimizes plaque retention and surface staining, improves patient comfort, and contributes to the long-term durability of the restoration.
