PRE-PROSTHETIC SURGERY
Pre-prosthetic surgery refers to the preparation of the mouth before the placement of a prosthesis, such as a partial or complete denture.
Some patients may need minor oral surgical procedures before receiving their denture to help improve comfort, fit, and stability. Since a denture rests on the bone ridge, the shape and condition of the bone and gums are very important.
Depending on the case, pre-prosthetic surgery may involve:
• Bone smoothing and reshaping
• Removal of excess or sharp bone
• Bone ridge reduction
• Removal of excess gum tissue
After healing, the tissues become more suitable for the next phase of treatment: denture planning and fabrication.
We will review your specific needs during your consultation.
