Wisdom teeth do not always need to be removed before orthodontic treatment.
Whether they should be removed depends on their position, available space, and how they may affect your treatment plan.
Here’s why!💡
Extraction is often recommended before or during braces if the wisdom teeth are:
✔️Impacted or trapped under the gums or bone.
✔️ Growing at an angle toward the second molar.
✔️ Causing pain, infection, cysts, or damage to the neighboring tooth.
✔️ Expected to interfere with planned tooth movement or orthodontic appliances.
Extraction is usually not necessary if the wisdom teeth are:
✔️ Fully erupted and healthy.
✔️In a good position with enough space.
✔️Not expected to interfere with orthodontic treatment.
