Started this case with patient at 11 yrs old, while still in mixed dentition.
Needed the early intervention, to guide the eruption of the coming permanent teeth which we can see in the before photos that at an early age, severe crowding is observed, giving no space for more of the coming teeth to erupt.

Glad we started early, and remained in a non extraction case.

Patient was very happy, parents were also happy. What more could I ask for?

This case was a reminder of the importance of healthy oral cavity.
(Teeth and all surrounding structures)

How:
Regular dental visits and good oral hygiene.

A good prognosis of any restorative case, highly depends on good and healthy oral cavity.

As much as we want you to have nice alignment of teeth with stable occlusion, one thing we always emphasize is the health of their gums.

If the teeth are crowded, some tooth may be behind, higher or lower than other teeth, which makes it harder to brush on those areas in compared with well aligned teeth.

Ideally, we can just brush easily all the areas of the tooth. When gargling, food debris will just slide trough, making all teeth self cleansing.

This case is one example, as you can see on thebefore photos, areas where there were crowding, the gums were red, indicated swelling, because it was hard to brush on that area,thus causing gingivitis (red);
You can compare it with the after photos, ano more crowding=healthy gums (pink).

Overcrowding of teeth resulting in a high canine case require more space for all the teeth to align.
Patient was 14 yrs old when we started,
gave me a chance to be able to use a palatal expander.
For 6 months the patient wore the aplliance, visited me every 2 weeks to adjust , widening the jaw, thus positioning the teeth properly.
All these, while simultaneously wearing braces.

The outcome made the patient very happy especially the parents, because the only thing they asked was to fix the alignment treating it as a non extraction case.

Another wonderful goodbye

When an orthodontic treatment finishes, it is an accomplishment and a rewarding experience, especially seeing the pre and post treatment photos.
But at the same time, it is also sad to think that our monthly appointments will end.

Saying goodbye to monthly visits, instead I'll see them every six months for regular cleaning and check up.

One of the most asked question to us while inquiring about braces is
"how long will I be wearing braces?"

What I always answer is this:
Ideally it should be at least 18mos, that is about 1 year and a half, but it will depend on the severity of the case and the cooperation of the patient.
Theare are only a few very important requirement I ask from patients to meet this time frame:
Regular monthly visit
Good oral hygiene
Being mindful when eating

I only get to see the patients once a month, so for the 29 or 30 days that I don't see them, I expect they do my mentioned requirements.

But there are times, certain external factors can also cause the delay.
One example was when Covid striked, patient's schedules visits were impossible to be followed due to certain restrictions. Like this patient of mine which is from Davao Oriental.
But as soon as all were cleared out, she made ways and she was able to come as much as she can.

We cannot do this alone, not without your trust and cooperation.

Another combination of Anterior Fixed Bridge and Removable Partial Dentures for the molars.

It is always a challenge to make different kinds of materials beside each other to look natural and in harmony.
Different materials such as:
Porcelain for the fixed bridge; and
Plastic for the dentures;
Both also beside a natural tooth.

This patient from Japan, came here in Davao to learn english, the course is 2 years, just enough time for the treatment to be finished.
That was the initial plan.

But suddenly, her plans changed and informed us 2 months ago that she will go back to Japan this month since she finished the course early, which will only make up 1 year of the treatment period.

Did the best we could with the time we had.
Good thing that we used Self ligating Braces.
Even in the short time, we can see a big improvement.

The patient is happy of the result, that is what's important. She now speaks good english and smiles confidently😊
