Tooth Extraction Process:

There are two types of extractions you might have:

A simple extraction is the removal of a tooth that is visible in your mouth. It’s common for a general dentist to perform simple extractions. During a simple extraction, your dentist will numb the tooth and gum tissue and loosen the tooth with an instrument called an elevator before removing it with dental forceps.

A surgical extraction is a more complex procedure used for a tooth that may have broken off at the gum line or has not come into the mouth yet. Oral surgeons usually perform surgical extractions; however, general dentists can perform them as well. During a surgical extraction, the doctor will make a small incision (cut) into your gum and remove the underlying tooth.

Do you really know the reason why eating sweets causes a cavity?

The bacteria that feed on sugar in your mouth cause a sticky film called plaque, which forms on teeth and under gums. The acid content in plaque causes demineralization of tooth enamel. Once the enamel is worn away, bacteria and acid are able to enter teeth, reaching the soft dentin inside.

Wisdom Tooth Pain:

Your wisdom Tooth may partially erupt, where only the top of the tooth breaks through your gum. This is called partial impaction. Some wisdom teeth never break through the gums, causing full impaction. This can be extremely painful, especially when eating or talking.

It may also cause your mouth to become crowded, pushing your other molars together and causing misalignment. If the third molars grow out of your gums, they may grow crooked. Not only does this cause misalignment of all your other teeth, but it can also increase your risk of infection in that area.

Oral Prophylaxis is a procedure done for teeth cleaning. It removes tartar and plaque build-up from the surfaces of the teeth as well as those hidden in between and under the gums. The dentist uses a scaler, a type of hand instrument, to remove the plaque and tartar.
