We know that coffee can stain those pearly whites, but does tea stain teeth? The answer is yes. In fact, tea might be even more likely to stain your teeth than coffee due to its higher tannin content.

How to Deal with Coffee and Tea Stains

Obviously, the best way to reduce tooth staining from coffee or tea is to stop drinking them altogether. However, most coffee and tea drinkers don't find that to be an acceptable solution. Instead of giving up your favourite morning beverage, try these tips to keep your teeth bright and white:

Cut Your Consumption
You might not need to give up coffee or tea entirely, but if you're the kind of person who always has a hot mug in your hand, you might want to think about cutting back. Instead of visiting the office coffeepot every hour, try having a cup of coffee or tea just three times a day—once with every meal.

Drink in One Sitting, Not Throughout the Day
Instead of sipping coffee or tea from your thermos all day long, drink the entire cup in one go. This means your teeth are only exposed to tooth-staining agents once instead of all day long.

Brush and Floss
Make sure to brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss your teeth at least once a day. This helps remove tooth-staining particles from in between your teeth and on your teeth's surfaces.

Visit Your Dentist
When you visit your dentist, you get a deep cleaning that removes the stains that have accumulated over the past six months. Dental visits also help you avoid tooth decay and damage. To keep your teeth looking their best, visit your dentist regularly.

For more tips on how to prevent tooth stains, talk to us during your next semi-annual visit. Contact us at Tapawan Dental Clinic.

Chewing on ice can cause dental damage like cracked or chipped teeth. It can also damage your enamel, causing increased sensitivity to hot and cold and leaving you more prone to tooth decay and cavities. Chewing ice can create even further problems by damaging existing dental work like fillings, crowns, and veneers, to top it off.

Chewing on ice is a common habit that can create a lot of problems for your oral health. We know that quitting can be challenging, but so are you. Try out the alternatives to ice chewing and see if they do the trick. If you need further assistance, talk to us about how you can make the change.

Milk and dairy are good for our teeth, but why? According to the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) College of Dentistry, dairy like cheese, milk, and yogurt provide a variety of benefits:

They contain casein proteins that form a protective film on the surface of your teeth. These proteins protect the hard outer layer of your teeth (known as enamel) from decay.🦷

🥛They are rich in calcium and phosphorus, minerals that repair damage to your teeth. When acid from bacteria and food break down your enamel, these minerals are there to help.

🥛They’re mostly pH-neutral and can help neutralize acidic or sugary food and drinks. Be sure to consume dairy after your snack or meal.

🥛They stimulate saliva production. Saliva helps maintain and repair your teeth, and healthy amounts lead to a better smile.

Remember that consuming dairy is just one part of a mouth-healthy lifestyle. Be sure to consume a balanced diet of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and mineral-rich items and visit your dentist regularly to keep those pearly whites nice and healthy.
