🦷 Wisdom teeth never give us wisdom—but impacted wisdom teeth can give us problems. 😅
Why do we sometimes need to remove an impacted wisdom tooth/teeth?
When a wisdom tooth doesn’t have enough space to fully erupt, it may become trapped or grow at an unusual angle. This can lead to:
🔹 Pain and swelling around the gums
🔹 Recurrent infection or inflammation
🔹 Food getting trapped, making the area difficult to clean
🔹 Tooth decay in the wisdom tooth or the neighboring tooth
🔹 Gum disease and bone loss around the adjacent tooth
🔹 Damage or resorption of the neighboring tooth
🔹 In some cases, cyst formation or other complications
And here’s the important part: an impacted wisdom tooth doesn’t always cause symptoms right away. You may feel completely fine while problems are developing underneath the gums.
That’s why a dental examination and X-ray are important to determine the position of the wisdom tooth and whether removal is recommended.
✨ Early assessment can help prevent bigger problems later.
If you have a partially erupted, impacted, or troublesome wisdom tooth, don’t wait until it becomes an emergency. Have it checked by your dentist.
