The 1304th PAF Dental Dispensary conducted dental civic mission on 12 July 2024 at BJMP, Lapu-Lapu City Jail, Male Dormitory. Upon arrival at the BJMP facility, the palpable anticipation and hope in the eyes of the detainees underscored the critical nature of our mission. Many had endured years of dental neglect, leading to chronic pain and other health complications.
Dental health is a cornerstone of overall well-being, yet it remains inaccessible for many, especially those within correctional facilities. Poor oral health can lead to severe pain, infections, and even systemic diseases. By addressing these urgent needs, our mission sought to not only alleviate immediate suffering but also to restore a sense of dignity and care to individuals often overlooked by society. our mission extends far beyond the immediate relief from pain. the dental operating team led by MAJ CUI DS conducted oral health information drive regarding best practices in oral hygiene and alternative ways for immediate dental care. throughout the day the dental team performed 158 tooth extractions and providing much-needed relief to 79 detainees.
Moreover, improving dental health has significant long-term benefits. Healthy detainees are less likely to suffer from severe health complications, reducing the overall burden on the correctional facility’s healthcare system.
