π¦· Why does your tooth hurt with COLD vs HOT?
βοΈ Pain when drinking something COLD This usually means your toothβs enamel is worn down or your dentin is exposed.
Inside your tooth are tiny tubes that connect to the nerve. When something cold touches it, the fluid inside moves quicklyβtriggering a sharp, sudden pain.
π Common causes:
β’ Tooth sensitivity
β’ Gum recession (exposed roots)
β’ Worn enamel from brushing too hard or acidic foods
β οΈ Type of pain:
βοΈ Quick, sharp, and goes away fast
π₯ Pain when drinking something HOT This can be more serious. Heat can reach deeper into the tooth and affect the nerve (pulp). If the nerve is inflamed or infected, hot drinks can trigger lingering, throbbing pain.
π Possible causes:
β’ Deep cavity
β’ Infected or damaged nerve
β’ Abscess
β οΈ Type of pain:
βοΈ Dull, intense, and lasts longer even after drinking
π¨ Important reminder:
β’ Cold sensitivity = usually early warning
β’ Heat sensitivity = possible advanced damage
π If you feel pain in either case, itβs best to have it checked early to avoid bigger dental problems.
