COMMON CAUSES OF BAD BREATH:👋👨🏽‍⚕️

1) Mouth, Nose and Throat Infections
According to the Mayo Clinic, Ears, Nose, and Throat (ENT) issues that can lead to postnasal drip which can contribute to bad breath. The bacteria feed on the mucus your body produces when it’s battling something like a sinus infection. (Which not only leave you sniffly but stinky, too!)

2) Dry Mouth
Dry mouth can be caused by many things including medication, certain medical conditions, alcohol consumption, to***co use or excessive caffeine. Drink plenty of water or chew sugarless gum to help increase saliva production.

3) Smoking and To***co Products
We all know to***co products damage your health, but they also damage your mouth by drying it out. Smokers are similarly more likely to develop gum disease than non-smokers which adds to bad breath.

4) Coffee, Caffeinated Drinks, and Alcohol
Excessive consumption is damaging to your health, but these products also dry out your mouth. Remember to drink plenty of water and drink these in moderation.

5) Poor Dental Hygiene
Be sure you are practicing good dental hygiene. Brush your teeth at least twice a day (after breakfast and before going to sleep) with anticavity toothpaste, couple with flossing and do not forget to scrape your tongue. Mouth wash may also help.

6) Diet
Reducing sugar intake can help since sugar aids bacteria multiplying quickly. Also, it may seem obvious, but pungent foods like onions and garlic are on the long list of bad-breath causing foods but don't get me wrong these are healthy spices. If the breath is a concern, you’ll want to at least be aware of these if not avoid them altogether.

7) Chronic Health Conditions
Gastric reflux, diabetes, liver, and kidney disease may cause bad breath as well. Yet another reason why taking care of your overall health keeps your mouth healthy!😁

This is a real neck Xray of a patient who accidentally swallowed his denture.😱

A GENTLE REMINDER TO OUR DENTURE WEARERS TO AVOID DENTURE INGESTION:

1) Please remove your denture everytime you sleep and soak it with an antimicrobial solution. You can put it back when you're fully awake.🥱 And not drunk!😕
2) If your denture is broken, bring it to your DENTIST for repair or replacement.
3) If your denture is loose, go see your DENTIST for relining or adjustment or replacement.
4) In case you will undergo surgery that will render you unconscious or sedated, make sure you remove your denture prior to the procedure.
5) Personally I don't advice DENTIST to make a removable denture of any kind for patients with mental illness, instead I will advice dental Implant, or a good fixed bridge to cover the missing dentition.
6) And if all of these fail and you accidentally swallow your denture. Go to the nearest hospital and call an ENT SPECIALIST - HEAD AND NECK SURGEON! 👋😉

This can be life threatening if taken for granted. Stay safe everyone.👨🏽‍⚕️❤️

Pancho Villa was the 1st Asian & Filipino World Boxing Champion. After going against his Dentist's advice, he died of deep neck infection during the pre-antibiotic era.🦷👨🏽‍⚕️

Born as Francisco Guilledo on August 1, 1901, “Pancho Villa” was a Filipino flyweight boxer who put the country on the map after winning the 1923 World Flyweight Boxing Championship. He was never knocked out in his entire boxing career. He had a total of 105 professional fights and was put in Ring Magazine’s Hall of Fame in 1961, making him the greatest Asian fighter in boxing history.

FINAL MOMENTS: Days before his scheduled fight against Jimmy McLarnin on July 4, 1925, Villa had his wisdom tooth extracted. This resulted to an open dento-alveolar socket and caused his face to swell. Despite his weakness, Villa still fought but ended up losing to McLarnin.
After the battle, he returned to the DENTIST only to discover an infection. Soon, Villa had three more of his teeth removed. The DENTIST advised him to take a rest and return for a follow-up examination. However, Villa refused to follow the instructions and went out for a week-long party instead.

He died on July 14, 1925 few days earlier his 24th birthday, he died due to complications known as LUDWIG’S ANGINA. He was only 23 years young.🥊🇵🇭👊🏽

LESSON: Don't go against your Dentist's or Physician's advice! Respect the expert! We care for our patients.❤️
