One of the questions we hear most after braces is, “Why do I still need my wisdom teeth checked?”
Our patient worked hard for his beautiful smile, so when we explained that his impacted lower wisdom teeth could cause problems in the future, he chose to have them removed.
Impacted wisdom teeth can push against the neighboring teeth, which may contribute to crowding or movement over time—even after orthodontic treatment. They can also increase the risk of cavities, gum infection, and damage to the tooth beside them because these areas are often difficult to clean. For some patients, they may also contribute to jaw discomfort or TMJ-related symptoms, depending on their position and how they affect the bite.
Not every wisdom tooth needs to be removed. That’s why every recommendation we make is based on a thorough clinical examination, X-rays, and what’s best for your long-term oral health.
Most importantly, trust your dentist. A good dentist will always recommend treatment based on your best interest—not because it’s the easiest option. And if you’re ever unsure, we genuinely encourage you to seek a second opinion. We have no problem with our patients consulting another clinic because we’re confident that an honest diagnosis and ethical treatment plan will always speak for themselves.
Your smile is an investment. Protecting it doesn’t end when the braces come off—it continues by making informed decisions that help keep your teeth healthy, stable, and beautiful for years to come. 🤍🦷
