Ever noticed how dentists never really have a day off? 😅

The moment you mention you’re a dentist, dinner suddenly turns into a free consultation:
🦷 “Does this tooth look okay?”
🦷 “Can you check this?”
🦷 “Should I replace this crown?”
🦷 “My gums bleed… is that normal?”

No mirror. No explorer. No X-rays.
Just pasta getting cold. 🍝😂

One of Dentistry's Oldest Filling Materials Is Gradually Being Phased Down.

For more than 180 years, dental amalgam (silver fillings) has been a reliable way to restore decayed teeth. Today, many countries are gradually reducing its use—not because it has suddenly become unsafe, but because tooth-colored alternatives have improved, and global efforts are aiming to reduce mercury pollution.

The Minamata Convention on Mercury, an international environmental treaty signed by more than 140 countries, encourages a gradual phase-down of dental amalgam while promoting effective mercury-free restorative materials where appropriate.

The transition is expected to occur over many years, and existing amalgam fillings that are intact generally do not need to be replaced solely because they contain mercury. Dentists recommend replacing fillings only when there is a clinical reason to do so.

🫀 Healthy gums may be more important for heart health than many people realize.

More than 40% of adults over age 30 have periodontal (gum) disease. While it is commonly known for causing bleeding gums, bad breath, and tooth loss, growing scientific evidence suggests it may also be linked to a higher risk of heart attack, stroke, atrial fibrillation, and other cardiovascular diseases.

Gum disease begins when bacteria and plaque accumulate around the teeth, triggering chronic inflammation. Researchers believe these bacteria and inflammatory molecules can enter the bloodstream through infected gum tissue, where they may contribute to inflammation and damage inside blood vessels. Although smoking, diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure are shared risk factors for both gum disease and heart disease, experts say periodontal disease itself may also play an independent role.

A recent scientific statement from the American Heart Association, highlighted by Harvard Health Publishing, states that although a direct cause-and-effect relationship has not yet been proven, the evidence linking periodontal disease and cardiovascular disease is becoming increasingly strong. Maintaining healthy gums through regular brushing, daily flossing, routine dental check-ups, and timely treatment of gum disease may help support both oral and heart health.

Healthy gums do more than protect the teeth—they may also help protect the heart.

“Next time nalang magpapa-adjust 😬”

Real talk: kung may braces ka, bawal petiks! 👇

🦷 1. Clean like a pro
Hindi pwedeng toothbrush lang 😆
Toothbrush + floss + mouthwash = iwas gingivitis & bad breath

⏰ 2. Monthly adjustment is a must
Skip mo ‘to? Expect mo rin na mabagal (or walang) progress 😬

⚠️ 3. Mas prone sa sira ang ngipin
Dahil sa braces, may mga singit na mahirap linisin—kaya doble ingat!

😬 4. Wear your elastics!
Hindi ‘yan design lang 😅
Sila ang susi para mas mabilis umayos ang bite mo

🍗 5. Iwas sa matitigas na pagkain
Bye muna sa chicharon & matitigas na pagkain 🥲
Ayaw mo naman matanggalan ng bracket diba?

Reminder:
Kung gusto mo maagang matanggal braces mo… consistency is key 🔑🦷
