𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐒𝐞𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐇𝐮𝐫𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐮: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐠𝐧𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐈𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠
A patient presented with pain in her lateral incisor and was considering root canal treatment. However, during the clinical examination, we also noted the presence of a gumboil on her central incisor.
To ensure an accurate diagnosis, we recommended a 𝐂𝐁𝐂𝐓 𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐧. Rather than limiting the view to a 4x4 scan, Dr. Vanessa advised a more comprehensive 12x14 CBCT to evaluate the entire area thoroughly.
This decision proved critical. The extended scan revealed an underlying issue in the lower left region, which was diagnosed as a cyst—something that would have gone undetected with a limited field of view.
The patient was then scheduled with our surgeon, Dr. Pocholo, for a 𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙘𝙮𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙤𝙢𝙮 along with the removal of impacted wisdom teeth. The procedure was successfully completed, and the specimen was sent for biopsy. We are currently awaiting the results to confirm the diagnosis and guide the next steps in care.
