✅ Stabilizing teeth after or during the final stages of braces (the finishing, detailing, and settling phase) typically takes about 3 to 6 months before the braces are removed. Once the braces come off, a lifelong retention phase begins, where 𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙢𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙗𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙣 𝙛𝙪𝙡𝙡-𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚 for the first 3 to 6 months, and nightly thereafter.

✅ Swollen gums with braces are mainly caused by food and plaque getting trapped around brackets and wires, which leads to bacterial irritation called gingivitis. The constant physical pressure from shifting teeth and monthly wire tightenings can also make the surrounding gum tissue tender and temporarily puffy.
