The Philippine Dental Association Abra Chapter celebrates National Dental Health month through continuation and improvement of its existing community projects. TSP or Tahanang Sentrong Pangkalusugan, a project that caters the oral health needs of children in the adopted barangay was first on the list of the chapter's activities for the month.
TSP was initiated by the past president Dr. Odet Dickson in 2018 and was later on improved and sustained by her daughter Dr Ramarie Dickson the immediate past president of the chapter. Barangay Cosili East was the adopted barangay for the TSP program since 2018 under the leadership of their good barangay captain Mrs. Elvie Baay.
As part of this year's SUSTAINABILITY OF PROJECTS of the chapter, Dr. Francisco Beleno Beria Jr. the present president of Abra Dental Chapter in collaboration with Department of Education Abra-Dental Department and Youth for YOUth organization, they conducted a visit to Barangay Cosili East a low risk for covid and did oral health discussion giving emphasis to APAT DAPAT OH and SIPILYO. This year's visit was different since Oral Health Discussion was done by the Youth Leaders who attended the chapter's TRAIN the TRAINERS webinar last year. Mx. Alex Bernal, head of the said youth organization was chosen to do the application of the training conducted last year under the supervision and guidance of the chapter president. Proper Toothbrushing discussion was also done by our partners from DepEd, Hygiene kits consisting of a brush and toothpaste was given to the children. Fluoride Varnish Application was also rendered on children presenting no symptoms, and coming from a 90% vaccinated family. IATF health protocols were observed during the said event.
After Cosili East, The team went to the neighboring barangay Cosili West and did Oral health Lectures, Hygiene Kit distribution.
In line with the World Oral Health Day, Partner Stakeholders including the Barangay Leader, Youth Organization Team, Department of Education, Teachers of Cosili Elementary School widely smiled while holding their "Be Proud of Your Mouth" frames as support to the Abra Dental Chapter's participation for the Global Event.
