🧠 Myth vs. Fact: PART 4 🍳☕

This is one of the most common debates when it comes to daily dental hygiene. Let’s look at the science behind it!

🛑 The Myth: You should brush your teeth after eating food to wash away all the food particles.
✅ The Fact: You should actually brush your teeth before food! Food acids—especially from breakfast favorites like coffee, tea, or orange juice—temporarily soften your enamel. If you brush right after eating, you are literally scrubbing those harsh acids directly into your weakened teeth, wearing them down.

✨ Why brushing before food works better:
1️⃣ It coats your teeth in protective fluoride, creating a shield against the incoming acids from your meal.
2️⃣ It jumpstarts your saliva production, which naturally helps wash away food particles and neutralizes acid after you eat.

💡 Tip: If you absolutely prefer brushing after a meal, make sure to wait at least 30 minutes after eating to let your enamel harden again. In the meantime, just rinse your mouth thoroughly with water right after eating!

Did you know that tooth decay can affect children as soon as their very first baby teeth erupt? Early Childhood Caries (ECC) can progress rapidly if left unchecked, but the good news is that it is completely preventable!

Let's look into how it happens, what to spot, and how to protect your little one’s smile. 👇

🔍 What Does It Look Like? (Stages of Decay)
Initial Caries / White Spot Lesions: Appears as a white, chalky-looking surface near the gum line. This is the earliest sign and can still be reversed!

Enamel Caries: The decay progresses into the outermost layer of the tooth. It is usually asymptomatic (no pain yet).

Dentine Caries: The decay goes deeper into the tooth structure, which may cause tooth sensitivity to cold, sweet, or hot foods.

Pulpitis / Dental Abscess: Bacteria pe*****te the deep nerve and blood vessel layers, often leading to severe pain, swelling, and infection.

⚠️ Main Causes of Caries
How does it start? When Bacteria in the mouth mix with Sugar from food or drinks, they produce Acid. This acid repeatedly attacks healthy teeth, eventually creating cavities.

🛡️ Prevention Tips:
1️⃣ Finish the bottle before bedtime and wipe or brush their teeth afterward.
2️⃣ Limit sugary snacks and drinks between meals.
3️⃣ Brush twice a day with an age-appropriate amount of fluoride toothpaste to strengthen enamel.
