Wanna know the secret to achieving caries free in Children?
It’s actually no secret at all!
Keep on reading…
⭐️ Brushing together
Children need help and guidance from parents for effective toothbrushing.
You can let your little one have some independence and explore while brushing, but supervision is a must! It is encouraged to have some play during toothbrushing to make it fun, followed by proper brushing by a parent.
⭐️ Attractive toothbrush
Find toothbrushes with attractive colors and designs. Toothbrushes with a favorite cartoon character or a superhero would make your child more interested in toothbrushing.
Both manual and electric toothbrushes work to keep teeth clean IF the brushing technique is correct.
⭐️ Brush twice a day!
Its important to create a routine with your child - morning and nighttime, for at least 2 minutes! You can also try pairing toothbrushing with other daily tasks such as diaper changes, after meals, during bath time or before naps.
⭐️ Fluoridated toothpaste
AAPD guideline is to use a rice or smear sized amount of fluoride toothpaste for kids under 3.
For kids above the age of 3, a pea sized amount is recommended.
⭐️ Positive Reinforcement & Rewards
Every small achievement matters! Make it exciting soo that your child will look forward to the next brushing session.
If your child maintains good oral hygiene practices, you can offer them an incentive at the end of the month (like a treat!)
⭐️ Annual Dental Visit
Regular dental visits will help diagnose any oral diseases at an early stage and if any intervention is needed, it will be minimal. (This applies for adults too!)
The goal is to allow your child to get acquainted with the dentist in a non-threatening environment.
REMEMBER, it takes good teamwork between you (the parent), your child and the dentist to maintain a lifetime of good oral hygiene and health.
