Case #8 class III with anterior cross bite and crowding (Jaw Surgery)

A 20-year-old patient presented with concerns of dental crowding and an underbite, where the lower teeth were positioned ahead of the upper teeth. The reverse overjet measured 5 mm, with crowding present in both the upper and lower arches.

Treatment involved the extraction of two upper premolars, followed by lower jaw surgery to reposition the jaw backwards. At the end of treatment, the patient was thrilled with the improvement in both his bite and facial profile.

🦷✨ Treatment duration: 25 months.

Case #7: Class II Div 1 with 12mm overjet

A 27 years old patient presented with concerns of a large overjet (horizontal distance between upper and lower front teeth). The overjet was 12mm, there was a transposition of 23 and 24, the 33 was ectopic and the 36 has an infection due to its large filling. The upper incisors were flared out and the lower jaw was set back.

We extracted 14, 23, 33, 45, and 36 (For financial reasons) followed by a lower jaw surgery to move the lower jaw forwards. He was ecstatic with the improve with the facial profile at the end of the treatment. Treatment time 2.5 years.

Case #6: Orthognathic Jaw Surgery (Class 3)

Patient disliked his long jaw and even had orthodontic treatment during his teens with extraction in the lower jaw to compensate for the long jaw. That couldn't change the fact that he still had a long jaw and that his lower front teeth were still in front.

He was managed with extractions in the upper jaw, then subsequently low jaw surgery (move backwards). The occlusion, lower midline and the chin point appeared perfect in a straight line after surgery. There was minimal swelling and the recovery was swift under 2 weeks. Overall treatment time 2.5 years.

The patient now enjoys restored confidence and the ability to chew in a better way. All the best in your medical school journey!

Home emergencies #2: Loose brackets!

If your brackets do come off, there may be a risk of damaging the surrounding structures and a risk of breathing in or swallowing the brackets leading to further issues. There may be a chance that the tooth may move back to its original position rather quickly without the tooth being held in place by the brace.

Do try to come back in for an emergency appointment if appropriate, otherwise please watch and follow the video!

Due to the Movement Restriction Order, we understand that some patients may not be able to make it for their scheduled appointments. We are also aware that unforeseen damages to your orthodontic appliances may occur during this time (for example, wire poking, rubber rings falling out, brackets falling off etc). Over the next few days, we will be releasing a few recommended videos to help you with any of these issue, should they arise. Do note that we would still recommend you coming back into the clinic to get it fixed, but if you can't, then do follow the instructions in the videos!

Here's one tackling the rubbing ring/module coming off!
