🦷 Did you know that dentists can use a space maintainer to help prevent tooth crowding in children?

Sometimes, unfortunately, a baby tooth may need to be extracted early because of extensive, unrestorable tooth decay. For example, if a lower first primary molar is lost prematurely, the lower first permanent molar may gradually drift forward, reducing the space needed for the developing permanent teeth.

In such cases, a space maintainer can be placed to preserve the space for the developing lower second premolar and help guide the permanent teeth into a more favourable position as they erupt.

✨ Early assessment and timely treatment can help prevent future space loss and reduce the risk of dental crowding.

If your child has lost a baby tooth earlier than expected, bring them in for a dental assessment to see whether a space maintainer may be appropriate. 🦷💙
