This patient had a habit of chewing betel leaf(paan). However, this is a bad habit that should be curbed.

Dangers of betel leaf/nut:
• Discolouration of teeth and gums
• Mouth ulcers and gum disease
• Oral cancers or sub mucous fibrosis (a pre-cancer condition)

What is MIH? MIH stands for Molar incisor hypomineralization

• Cause is still unknown.
• Prevalence increased over the past two decades in developed countries.
• Primarily affects first molars, but ~50% also have defects on permanent incisors.
• Affected first molars have hypomineralized defects of enamel, varying from discoloration to severe enamel dysplasia with post-eruptive breakdown.
• Increases sensitivity and increases risk for caries.
• Defects may affect from one to all first molars.
• Appear as yellow/white opacities on front surface of affected incisors.
• Distribution often asymmetrical.
• Incisors less prone to enamel breakdown than first molars.
• Treatment options include intracoronal restoration, SS crowns, or extraction for molars and partial composite veneering for incisors.
