Wisdom tooth close to the nerve? Not every case should be treated the same.

In some situations, removing the entire tooth carries a higher risk of nerve injury. With proper diagnosis using CBCT 3D imaging, we can assess the exact position of the tooth and plan a safer approach.

In this case, instead of a full extraction, we performed a coronectomy — removing only the crown while preserving the roots to protect the nerve.

Dental implants are designed to last many years and function like natural teeth. However, like any mechanical system, complications can occasionally happen.

Recently, a patient came to our clinic with a loose implant crown that had been placed several years ago elsewhere. After examination and CBCT imaging, we found that the implant screw had fractured inside the implant fixture.

In addition, the implant position was not ideal, which caused excessive biting force on the implant components over time. This eventually led to the screw fracture.

Because the fractured screw was deeply lodged and the implant angulation was not favourable, the most predictable treatment was to remove the old implant and place a new implant in the correct position.

Using a minimally invasive approach, the failed implant was removed and a new implant was immediately placed in a more ideal position to support long-term stability.

Dental implants generally have a very high success rate, but proper planning, positioning, and long-term maintenance are important for their longevity.

If you notice that your implant crown feels loose or uncomfortable when chewing, it is best to have it checked early before complications become more complex.
