YOU LOST ONE TOOTH…
BUT SOMETHING ELSE MAY BE CHANGING.
Your jawbone.
And here’s what many patients don’t realize:
YOU MAY NOT EVEN NOTICE IT.
Every natural tooth has a root surrounded by supporting bone.
When that tooth is lost…
the bone that once supported it begins to remodel.
Dentists call this:
ALVEOLAR BONE RESORPTION.
And some of the most significant changes can occur during the first few months.
The ridge may become narrower.
It may lose height.
And over time…
THERE MAY BE LESS BONE AVAILABLE FOR FUTURE IMPLANT TREATMENT.
That doesn’t mean everyone will need bone grafting.
But it does mean timing and anatomy matter.
And here’s another important point:
DENTAL IMPLANTS DON’T MAGICALLY STOP BONE LOSS.
They can provide support for replacement teeth…
but the surrounding bone still requires healthy conditions and long-term maintenance.
So remember this:
A MISSING TOOTH ISN’T ALWAYS JUST AN EMPTY SPACE.
The changes may continue beneath the gums…
even when you can’t see them.
THE TOOTH YOU LOST IS VISIBLE.
THE BONE CHANGES MAY NOT BE.
