Earlier this week during moments of reflection, I realized just how grateful I am that I got my teeth straightened at an early age. This was way back when braces were a reserve of the "privileged" in society.
My exposure to all kinds of dentists because of my decayed and "crooked" teeth is how I ended up in this field of Dentistry, with dreams of making a difference in the lives of Kenyans in need.
Fast forward to over ten years in General Dental practice and it is depressing to reflect upon the number of patients I feel I've let down either because the cost of dental treatment is not within their 'affordable range' or 'insurance doesn't cover'.
(Dental phobia aside), financing of dental treatment has been the biggest hindrance to a life free from dental discomfort and pain for most patients. This shouldn't be the case in this day and age :-( .
I believe there is always a solution to every problem as long as you're not afraid to ask the right questions..... So today I present to you.... *drumrolls*..... "CHAMA EXPERIMENT for dental treatment 2022". Space available for only ten members per specified treatment (for now).
Though many people think it is a high risk venture, let's try and see what lessons will come from it. This is not rocket science: our mothers have used these means to feed, clothe and educate us over the years, and I have firsthand experience of how 'chamas' have come through for me when all hope was lost.
In summary, one of my for 2022 is to stop wasting my knowledge, dental skills, life experiences, industry connections and willing colleagues in 2022 waiting for 'the perfect moment'.... it's time to be helpful humans even as we continue advocating for and through Wellness Achievers Africa discussions.
