Treatment details :
The patient is a woman in her 20s who visited our clinic hoping to replace a missing front tooth. She lost the tooth due to a fall in her teenage years and had been using a retainer with an artificial tooth ever since. As a result, there was a visible gap without a retainer where the front tooth was missing.
Since the patient was missing a single front tooth, we explained that a dental bridge could also be a treatment option. However, this would require significant reduction of the adjacent healthy teeth, the patient chose to proceed with a dental implant instead.
After the Implant placement surgery, a temporary Crown supported by the Implant was placed on the same day. This eliminated the need for the retainer. 3 months after the Implant placement, the final crown was attached, completing the treatment.
The outcome was not only aesthetically pleasing, but also restored proper function, allowing the patient to bite confidently with the front tooth. She expressed great satisfaction with the results.
The patient now continues to visit us for regular maintenance appointments.

Children grow at a fast rate, and this includes their teeth. A child will lose their baby teeth and grow in their permanent teeth throughout their younger years. Your child does not need to wait until they lose all of their baby teeth to get an idea of if they are going to need to see an orthodontist. According to the American Association of Orthodontics (AAO), a child should have their first visit with an orthodontist by the age of 7 if there are any issues suspected with the alignment of their teeth. For more information, please visit this website:

Putting off a first visit to the orthodontist until all of a child’s permanent teeth are in could do more harm than good.

To make Natural Teeth and Implants last longer!

Nice to meet you, I will work at Arakawa Family Dental from April. My name is Takeyama, a dental hygienist! The other day, I participated in a seminar on the maintenance of implants that I have been interested in before. Currently, implants can be placed in the missing part of a tooth and bite as if it were a natural tooth.

In order to make implants last as long as natural teeth, not only the care of our professional hygienists' but also the self care of patients at home will be important. It is important to have maintenance done on a regular basis in order to see if self care has been done correctly. Japan became a super-aged society in 2010, while the problem of periodontal disease in middle-aged people as well as elderly people has increased, risk factors for periodontal disease has been linked to systemic disease. The importance of oral care (plaque control) has been highlighted.

It is known that bacteria in the oral cavity can spread throughout the body and through blood vessels causing a myocardial infarction or cerebral infarction, etc. due to the inflammation of the gums caused by dental stain (plaque). In January 2019, an American research team reported that toxins produced by chronic periodontitis bacteria were found in the brains of 96% of patients with Alzheimer's disease and that periodontitis bacteria was involved. Since the implant is directly in the bone of the jaw, inflammation causes the bone to dissolve at a faster rate than natural teeth. This can cause the implant to fall out. Probing and palpation for maintenance, photography and radiography, cleaning, checking and teaching correct usage of brushing and auxiliary tools are important in order to prevent it this from occuring.

In order for a patient to attend maintenance, he always thinks about what he / she wants him / her to take when he / she takes a medical examination, and communication with the patient is also important. Not only the technology but also the dental hygienist who can be considered in the other party's position, I share information with the staff and I want to do my best to provide better treatment! Thank you.

Hello Everyone,
This is Dr. Arakawa from Arakawa Family Dental. From April we changed the name of the clinic and are now starting medical consultations. On April 18th, we held a memorable 1st decayed tooth prevention class. It turned out to be a great day.

The subjects of this class were between the ages of one and three years old. The were not in school and were with their parents. Children need to be around dentists and the equipment in the office. If they become comfortable around the dentist, the dental office, and a toothbrush, they will feel more comfortable around them.

During this class, two mothers participated and listened intently to the discussion about the prevention of cavities. "I had a lot of thought about my child's prevention of cavities and I was really impressed." One of the moms said.

Meanwhile, the children waited in the playroom with the dental hygienist. Here, this is where picture books such as Pooh's mouth was read and a toothbrush was practiced with.

The children sat on the dentists chair and practiced brushing their teeth. The participants then were rewarded with gifts. The children did a great job and the toothbrush was not so unpleasant. Lets do our best to aim for the goal of being cavity free!!! Our next class will be on June 5th. Please come join us.

Hello Everyone!!
This is Arkawa of Hakuta Family Dental Director.
The 4th through the 10th of June is the last time that we performed a Teeth and Child prevention class (For 1 to 3 year olds) This is officially "tooth and mouth health week".

Have you heard of the word "Infection Window"? Mutant bacterias which are causative bacteria of cavities, are not found in newborn babies. So we then ask ourselves, "When will Mutans bacteria become established in your mouth?"
As teeth begin to erupt, it has become clear that the Mutans bacteria colonize and infect as it opened the window between a year and seven months and two years and seven months of age.
As for the where the infection occurs, this is mostly a vertical infection caused by the mother and other family members. For people with no cavities, the number of mutans is generally small.
That is how to prevent infection with mutans during the window of this infection. This is one of the important points for prevention of dental cavities.
So, how do we prevent infection? There are two important points.

1. Avoid frequent ingestion of sugar. Mutans fungus love
sugars. If you ingest sugar.......the fungus will grow
like this:
It is a sticky ingredient (insoluble gluten) as a
metabolite of sugar, and also attracts other bacteria.
Since it sticks to the tooth's surface with a sticky
ingredient, it can not be removed with gargling alone.
So lets pay attention to our sugar intake. Moreover,
both mothers and children tend to share their food.
Mothers love to give their children a piece of food that
they are eating. Do not neglect polishing of the teeth.
This is extremely important for young children.

For details on liquid polishing, please contact us. Children may not like it when they get their teeth polished and it may be difficult for children to brush everyday. Family involvement is important if you want your child or children to have a routine of taking care of their oral health. Why not have mom or dad participate in brushing? Why not make it fun?

In Cavity prevention classes, children are able to spend time with the dentist. This helps them to become more comfortable around them and will help them to be more comfortable during future treatments.

Children Cavity prevention and education is very important and that is why it is important for the parents participation.

The next Cavity Prevention class is June 23rd (for elementary school students). For details please see the website notice.
