Let's talk xrays!
Have you been to a dentist and you were told you needed to take xrays but you did not know why/ did not see the importance?
Dental xrays are images of the teeth that we use to evaluate your oral health. Using really low levels of radiation we are able to capture images of : the inside of and in between your teeth to check for cavities that we cannot see with the naked eye, the level of bone surrounding the teeth and to check and diagnose other problems such as impacted teeth.
Can you imagine having a lot of cavities in between your teeth but not knowing about them until they start to hurt/create discomfort? It might be too late then!
I recommend that on the first visit to a dentist, an examination and 4 bitewing xrays (like the one showed in the picture) are taken. This helps your dentist understand everything/majority of what is going on to develop a treatment plan for your needs. Sometimes, if you are having a specific issue, other types of xrays will have to be taken to diagnose your concern properly.
