La maggior parte dei bambini inizia ad avere i primi denti intorno ai 6 mesi di età, e per circa 21 ⁄2-3 anni, è solitamente presente l'intero set di 20 denti primari (da bambino).

Ecco la tipica linea temporale dell'eruzione dei denti da latte:

• Gli incisivi centrali inferiori - solitamente compaiono per primi, intorno ai 6-10 mesi
• Incisivi centrali superiori - eruttano intorno agli 8-12 mesi
• Gli incisivi laterali superiori - appaiono intorno ai 9-13 mesi
• Incisivi laterali inferiori – eruttano tra 10 e 16 mesi

• I primi molari superiori - di solito si presentano intorno ai 13-19 mesi
• I primi molari inferiori - eruttano intorno ai 14-18 mesi

• Cinofili superiori (cuspidi) - compaiono tra 16 e 22 mesi
• Cinofili inferiori - eruzione tra 17 e 23 mesi

• Molari secondi inferiori - solitamente compaiono tra 23 e 31 mesi
• Molari secondi superiori - l'ultimo ad eruttare, intorno ai 25-33 mesi

Ogni bambino si sviluppa ad un ritmo leggermente diverso, quindi una variazione di pochi mesi è normale.

Alla fine di questo processo, la maggior parte dei bambini ha il loro set completo di 20 denti da latte, che svolgono un ruolo importante nella masticazione, nello sviluppo del linguaggio e nel guidare i denti permanenti nella posizione corretta.

A toothache can radiate pain to the ear, jaw, temple, and even cause one-sided headache.

This is not coincidence.
It is neuroanatomy.

Your teeth are connected to the trigeminal nerve — the largest sensory nerve in the face. This nerve has three major branches supplying:

• Upper jaw (maxillary region)
• Lower jaw (mandibular region)
• Forehead, eye, and scalp areas

When a tooth becomes inflamed — due to deep decay, pulpitis, or infection — the pain signals travel through these trigeminal pathways to the brainstem.

But here is the key:

The brain does not always distinguish precisely where the signal started.
Multiple areas of the face, jaw, ear, and head share overlapping neural pathways within the trigeminal system. Because of this convergence, the brain may interpret the signal as coming from nearby regions.

This is called referred pain.

That is why:

• A lower molar infection can feel like ear pain
• Upper tooth inflammation can trigger temple or sinus pain
• Severe pulpitis can cause one-sided headache
• Jaw muscles may feel sore even when the problem is inside a tooth

The ear and the jaw are especially connected because the mandibular branch of the trigeminal nerve lies close to the ear structures and temporomandibular joint (TMJ).

In some cases, patients seek treatment for “ear pain” when the true source is a dental infection.

Toothache is not isolated discomfort.
It is a neurological event processed by shared cranial nerve pathways.

If pain spreads, throbs, or radiates, it is often a sign that inflammation is affecting deeper tissues — not that the problem is imaginary.

Persistent radiating pain requires evaluation.

Delaying care allows infection to extend beyond the tooth into bone and surrounding structures.

Pain spreading to the ear or head is not coincidence.

Researchers are uncovering a surprising connection between gum disease and breast cancer.

A well-known oral bacterium linked to periodontitis has been detected inside breast cancer tissue, raising new questions about how oral health may influence disease beyond the mouth.

According to recent findings, this bacterium can travel from the oral cavity to the breast, likely spreading through the bloodstream or the mammary ducts.

Once inside breast tissue, it doesn’t remain passive—it can adapt to the tumor environment and persist within cancer cells.

Even more concerning, laboratory evidence suggests this gum disease–associated bacterium may accelerate tumor growth and progression by interacting with cancer cells and the immune system.

This does not mean gum disease causes breast cancer, but it highlights a possible biological link worth serious attention.

The takeaway is clear: oral health is not isolated from overall health. Preventing and treating periodontal disease is not just about saving teeth—it may play a role in reducing systemic inflammation and potential downstream health risks.
