🌍 Among the TOP 100 researchers worldwide in Dentistry — excluding self-citations!

I am delighted to celebrate my continued inclusion and further progress in the Stanford–Elsevier World’s Top 2% Scientists ranking.

The 2026 update, assessing research citation impact during 2025, marks three milestones:

🌍 96th worldwide in Dentistry.
🇮🇹 7th among Dentistry researchers affiliated with institutions in Italy.
🎓 3rd among researchers affiliated with Kore University of Enna included in the database.

All three positions are based on the ranking EXCLUDING self-citations.

This achievement is a meaningful milestone in a journey shaped by research, collaboration, and a continuing commitment to advancing knowledge in dentistry.

My sincere thanks to the colleagues, mentors, students, and collaborators who have shared this journey, and to everyone who continues to support my work.

Proud of this milestone, grateful for the people behind it, and motivated to keep moving forward.

I am pleased to share this article highlighting the growing network of Calabrian talents committed to healthcare, research, and professional collaboration.

This initiative represents an important opportunity to connect professionals, academics, clinicians, and researchers who share the same goal: bringing expertise, experience, and scientific vision together for the benefit of the healthcare system and the wider community.

As a Calabrian working in academia and research, I strongly believe in the value of building bridges between territories, institutions, and professionals. Networks like this can help transform individual skills into collective impact.

Congratulations to Giusi Princi for promoting and supporting this valuable project.

Pleased to share a review article published in the World Academy of Sciences Journal (WASJ), 2026, Vol. 8, Article 61.

Title: "Bioglass 45S5 in dentistry: Current evidence, clinical applications and future perspectives"

Bioglass 45S5 is one of the most studied bioactive materials in regenerative dentistry. This review examines its physicochemical properties and clinical applications: socket preservation, sinus augmentation, pulp regeneration, and peri-implant bone reconstruction.

The work synthesizes available evidence and outlines emerging perspectives in dental biomaterials science.

It is with great satisfaction that I share the milestones of the Journal of Dentistry and Multidisciplinary Sciences in 2025 and the strategic perspectives for 2026.

In the editorial published in January 2026 in JDMS (AIMS Press), I outlined the journal's path: growth of the scientific community, expansion of the international editorial board, and an increasingly interdisciplinary vision integrating dentistry, bioengineering, and translational medicine.

JDMS was founded on the conviction that dental research needs editorial spaces capable of engaging with other disciplines. This approach reflects the work I carry out daily across clinical practice, research, and teaching.

I am grateful to all authors, reviewers, and collaborators who have made this journey possible.

This weekend I had the great honour of being inducted as a Fellow of the International College of Dentists (FICD) during the 69th Annual Meeting of the European Section.

The International College of Dentists is one of the oldest and most prestigious honorary organizations in dentistry, recognizing professionals who have demonstrated excellence in clinical practice, research, education, leadership, and service to humanity.

I am sincerely grateful to Prof. Antonio Barone , Regent for Italy, for proposing my nomination, and to Prof. Mauro Labanca, who generously served as my sponsor and accompanied me throughout this meaningful journey.

Receiving this Fellowship is not simply a personal achievement; it is a commitment to continue promoting scientific excellence, education, international collaboration, and humanitarian values within our profession.

I share this recognition with my family, colleagues, students, collaborators, and all those who have contributed to my professional and academic growth over the years. Every milestone is built together.

I look forward to continuing this journey with even greater enthusiasm, contributing to the advancement of dentistry and supporting the next generation of clinicians and researchers.

FICD — an honour, a responsibility, and an inspiration for the future.

I am pleased to share my recently published editorial on one of the most urgent challenges in contemporary biomedical and dental research: scientific integrity.

The article discusses ethical distortions in publishing, including predatory journals, citation manipulation, authorship issues, paper mills, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence in scientific writing and peer review.

In an era in which research productivity, bibliometrics, and AI tools are rapidly reshaping academic publishing, transparency and accountability must remain at the center of scientific communication.

I am pleased to share our new publication:

“The Mouth of the Sun King: Oral Health, Dental Disease, and Therapeutic Attempts in the Reign of Louis XIV of France.”

This article is part of an ongoing academic research line focused on the history of dentistry, oral surgery, and maxillofacial medicine. 📖

Through analysis of historical medical records, memoirs, and retrospective clinical interpretation, we reconstructed the oral health status of Louis XIV and proposed plausible diagnoses, including rampant caries, chronic periodontitis, maxillary osteonecrosis, and persistent oro-nasal communication, following catastrophic dental extractions performed in 1685.
Beyond the historical fascination of the case itself, the manuscript highlights how several principles central to contemporary oral and maxillofacial surgery, including infection management, anatomical limitations, surgical risk, and prosthetic rehabilitation, were already dramatically evident centuries ago.
I believe that the history of medicine and dentistry remains an extraordinary educational tool capable of connecting clinical sciences, anthropology, surgery, and cultural evolution.

Many thanks to Prof. Marco Cicciù for supervising!

It was a great honor to participate, together with Prof. Cosimo Galletti, in the 7th International Conference of Dentistry held in Prishtinë, Kosovo, an international scientific event focused on modern concepts in dentistry, dental anthropology, and forensic dentistry. 🦷

During the conference, we delivered a lecture entitled:
“From Periodontal Disease to Peri-Implantitis: Clinical, Systemic, and Bioengineering Perspectives on a Continuum of Inflammatory Burden.”
Beyond the scientific value of the meeting, this experience further strengthened the excellent academic relationships established over time with colleagues and institutions from Kosovo 🇽🇰. It was an honor to meet professors like Prof. Sllamniku and Prof. Donika Bajrami. In this context, collaboration with the Albanian 🇦🇱 academic environment has also played a key role, particularly thanks to Prof. Meto, whose commitment and vision have significantly contributed to the development of productive international connections among universities, clinicians, and researchers.
What began as a scientific interaction is evolving into a broader collaborative platform encompassing research activities, educational projects, institutional dialogue, and future multidisciplinary initiatives.

We also had the opportunity to meet again at Expo Dental Rimini 2026, where this renewed encounter fostered further discussions about future collaborations, potentially extending to institutional partnerships and broader international initiatives.

I strongly believe that scientific growth increasingly depends on the ability to build authentic international networks grounded in mutual respect, shared expertise, and common academic goals.
Many projects are currently in progress.
Stay tuned.

As Editor-in-Chief, I am personally committed to building a journal where scientific rigor and editorial transparency are not just stated values, but daily practice.

JDMS was created to offer researchers, especially early-career investigators and groups working across disciplinary boundaries, a serious, accessible platform for their work. Every manuscript receives constructive, timely peer review, and every published article is immediately available to the global community.

We are growing steadily, and I am proud of the quality of contributions we have received so far. If your research sits at the crossroads of dentistry and any related field, I would be glad to hear from you.

Feel free to reach out directly; my inbox is open!
