Throughout the pandemic, I was busy deep-diving & simplifying the complex concepts & emerging evidence to help dentists adopt safe protocols in their clinics. I also worked on
- Developing ABC Protocol for early diagnosis of COVID-19.
- Using Rapid tests in clinics.
- Chlorhexidine mouthwash to minimize viral spread inside the clinics to protect clinic staff. I researched & converted the complex scientific evidence into easy-to-understand blogs, social media posts, videos, & infographics. Gave 25+ invited lectures on . To publish COVID-19 evidence I used Dental Tribune (world's most subscribed & popular dental newspaper)- a powerful platform that has an incredible reach globally. As the Executive Editor, Dental Tribune South Asia (DTSA) - I cover a wide array of dental topics, latest developments, write editorials, invite guest editorials, and interview industry leaders to showcase emerging opportunities in the dental industry. DTSA reached 1 Million readers in two years 2020-2021.
____

Soon after completing my MDS - I created Perioindia (2004)- the first online discussion group in dentistry in India- for scientific discussions & to help PG students in their dissertations. I developed Perionomics (Periodontics + Practice economics)- to improve perio treatment acceptance by patients. Perionomics makes perio treatments conservative and reduces treatment costs. I have extensively lectured across India, helping thousands of dentists adopt Perionomics in their practice. I designed Clinical Smile Design (CSD) to help dentists with 'smile diagnosis' & treatment planning in less than 3 minutes without using any tech/ digital tool. With 500+ dentists trained, CSD is an excellent tool to initiate any dentist into managing complex cases. Today, through Perioindia I teach Perionomics & CSD in my perio course (Comprehensive Periodontal Therapy)- completing 40 batches soon. Perioindia also conducts 'Grafting in Implantology' course. I've also developed Halyx- a unique fresh breath kit that packs all scientific evidence & 'bad breath' management tools in one box.

A few weeks ago, I had a slightly uncomfortable realization.

I had spent the day “learning.”

I’d read articles. Listened to podcasts.

Watched educational videos. By evening, I felt productive.

Then a question caught me off guard.

"What idea did I actually struggle with today?"

I didn’t have a good answer.

That bothered me.

Somewhere along the way, I’d started confusing consuming information with thinking.

They feel surprisingly similar.

Later, while reading about neuroscience and cognitive psychology, I came across an idea that explained why.

Your brain isn’t shaped simply by the information it receives.

It’s shaped by what it is required to do with that information.

One sentence has stayed with me ever since:

Information alone is usually insufficient for lasting change. The greatest learning occurs when information is actively retrieved, questioned, connected, applied, and reflected upon over time.

That sentence quietly changed how I measure a good day.

I no longer ask, “What did I learn today?”

I ask, “Which idea changed the way I think today?”

They’re very different questions.

One measures how much information entered my mind.

The other asks whether anything inside my mind actually changed.

The science is still evolving, but one idea appears remarkably consistent:

The brain seems to benefit more from actively engaging with ideas than from simply encountering them.

I’m trying to spend a little less time collecting information…

…and a little more time wrestling with ideas.

I’m curious:

When was the last time an idea genuinely changed the way you think—not just added another fact to your memory?

You are trying to build a new identity for yourself & now you are feeling lost.

You’re not lost.

You’re in something called the "liminal space."

This is the middle phase where your old identity is finished, but the new one hasn’t started yet.

Everything feels confusing, foggy, and uncertain.

That anxiety and the “who am I now?” feeling? Totally normal.

This phase is uncomfortable, but it’s also where real change happens.

You’re not falling apart — you’re in the middle of becoming a stronger, clearer version of yourself.

Take it one day at a time. Breathe. Trust the process.

The new you is coming, and it will be worth it.

Type IDENTITY if it feels familiar.

I finally launched IDENTICRAFT.

Three dentists joined the Founder Batch.

And in the process, they reinforced something I’ve believed for years:

Identity is not found. It’s crafted.

In this week’s newsletter, I share why so many talented dentists stay stuck waiting for clarity—and why clarity often emerges only after we begin.

I also share the biggest lesson I’ve learned from my own journey building Perionomics, Clinical Smile Design, dental education initiatives, and now IDENTICRAFT.

A baby just made medical history by becoming the first person in the world to get a CRISPR therapy made only for him.

Many people, including me, were eagerly waiting to hear a good news about real world application of CRISPR, and now, it's here.

Now, let's get on with the story.

The baby had a disease called "CPS1 deficiency," extremely rare—just 1 in 1.3 million births.

In CPS 1 deficiency, the body cannot clear ammonia from the blood. What happens then? Toxic levels build up, leading to brain damage, coma, or even death.

Until now, the only option was a liver transplant. But can you imagine that in a fragile infant?

This medical team at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania decided to try something new.

They built a "personalized CRISPR therapy" in just six months.

At 7 months old, he got his first infusion. What changed? He could eat more protein safely.

Then came a second dose. His medicines were cut in half.

Today, he’s rolling, sitting, waving. And most importantly—he hasn’t needed a liver transplant.

Is it a cure? Not yet. He still needs some medicines. He still needs monitoring.

But this shows something huge: a CRISPR therapy can be made for one patient, with one unique mutation, in just months.

For decades, dentistry has sought ways to regenerate enamel—the body’s hardest tissue, which does not naturally heal itself.

Breakthrough: Keratin toothpaste can make enamel regeneration possible soon

A new study done at King's College London offers hope: keratin-based scaffolds could guide mineral growth, potentially paving the way for true enamel regeneration.
