πŸ“ "Sultan," the African Boerboel – A Gentle Giant!

Meet Sultan, a magnificent African Boerboel, whose massive size and powerful appearance can be intimidating. But behind that imposing personality is a gentle giant!
As veterinarians, we have learned that size and appearance can be misleading when judging a dog's temperament. Many large breeds, despite their frightening looks, are surprisingly calm, cooperative and well-behaved on our examination table.
Interestingly, when some large dogs dislike a particular procedure, they often give us a warning through growling, stiffening or other body language, almost as if saying, "Doctor, please don't touch me there!"
On the other hand, some small breeds can be more challenging to handle. They may be nervous, defensive or unpredictable, and occasionally bite with very little obvious warning!
Of course, every dog is different. Temperament depends on genetics, socialisation, previous experiences, pain and fear rather than size alone. Even the gentlest giant deserves careful, respectful handling

Never judge a dog by its size. Sometimes the biggest dogs have the gentlest hearts! ❀️

πŸ“ The Elegant Angora Rabbit

The Angora rabbit is one of the oldest domestic rabbit breeds, famous for its exceptionally long, soft and silky wool. Originating from Ankara, Turkey, Angoras are generally gentle, calm and friendly companions. Their luxurious coat requires regular grooming to prevent matting and reduce the risk of swallowing excessive hair, which can cause digestive problems. With proper nutrition, grooming and care, these fluffy beauties make charming and affectionate pets.

πŸ“ Tiny Lives, Big Challenges – Premature Puppies Fighting for Survival!

Two premature newborn puppies, delivered at approximately 56–57 days of gestation, were brought to Felican Pet Hospital requiring intensive neonatal care.

Both puppies had almost no body hair, very weak suckling reflexes, low body temperature and low blood glucose levels.

They were immediately placed in a neonatal incubator to maintain proper warmth, oxygen support and humidity. Diluted dextrose was administered to correct hypoglycaemia, and nutritional support was provided through orogastric tube feeding using canine milk replacer.

These tiny lives need continuous monitoring, special care and a little luck.

Survival is possible, but the prognosis remains guarded.

πŸ“A Little Surgery, A Big Hope – Back to Flight!

This beautiful yellow cockatiel was brought to Felican Pet Hospital with a large cyst-like swelling on its wing, preventing it from flying normally.

The swelling had affected the bird's wing movement and caused considerable discomfort.

A minor surgical procedure was performed to remove the growth and give this little bird a chance to spread its wings again.

Sometimes, even a small surgery can make a big difference in a tiny life!

πŸ“ An Unusual Queen – 15 Ni***es and a Single Kitten! 🐱

Nature never fails to surprise us!

A pregnant queen presented to Felican Pet Hospital had an unusual finding β€” 15 distinct ni***es!

Normally, cats have 6–8 ni***es, arranged in two mammary chains. Extra ni***es, known as supernumerary ni***es (polythelia), are generally a harmless congenital variation. Some may even produce milk after delivery.

Interestingly, this queen was carrying just one kitten! Despite showing signs of impending labour for nearly 24 hours, she failed to develop effective uterine contractions β€” a condition known as maternal uterine inertia.

A Caesarean section was performed to deliver the single kitten.

15 ni***es, one kitten β€” another fascinating case from the world of veterinary medicine!
